Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

truly amazing

I just rode 25km in the pouring and i mean POURing rain, Back from the girlfriends, HAd the most amazing time, Rode way faster than most people on the road in the foggy rain, Skidding and hopp`n all about the near empty roads in the dark, didnt get cold, didnt get tired Green light after green light bob dylan, wolf mother blaring the whole way. Rides like that one, is what makes cycling so great, a ride that logically will suck, that you should dread But for some reason, It goes right, its a blast. Loving the fixed, the rain made my normally pathetic skidding in to some pimptight shast!

Headphones is the worst idea on a bike. You aren't in a car so if you want to severly impair yourself, keep rockin'.

haha! I'M the fool? god you're ignorant. why would you willingly sacrifice an important sense (hearing) when you're surrounded by idiot drivers who are controlling vehicles that could kill you? you're putting yourself at a serious disadvantage.

and yeah, wolfmother does suck. go buy some taste.

Kol.klink, you go good, fellow. Put your headphones on, listen to whomever you please, and make the world go away. Enjoy the JOY. I am happy for you.

Sounds like a great ride... but I'll jump on the headphone bandwagon; with headphones, especially at high volume, you're cutting off one of your more powerful traffic detectors... your field of hearing is a lot broader than your field of vision, especially at night (unless you have hearing loss, of course) But, if you trust cars & peds to be where you expect them to be, I suppose you have nothing to worry about, because you know, car drivers and pedestrians always do the right thing.

wow. what a bunch of vampires. Kol.klink, sounds like a sweet ride. There's nothing quite like having a strong quick ride in the rain -- and it does make skidding a bit more crazy. Cheers.

Agreed on the headphones, I usually don't like wearing them but if the muse is upon me I just put one ear thingy in. I know you lose some of the music that way but it's better than losing some of your body parts
