Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

w.t.f. with the Dolce. Serioulsy. Serioulsy. I got all excited thinking, hey, maybe I'll have some extra cash and I can replace purplebike with a new dolce purple bike but no, they have to make them all swoopy and "feminine" and yellow...yellow...who the hell would ride those bikes? ew.

On topic, I like the Seattle, but if a bunch of those show up on the streets it really takes out all the fun of building up unique bikes.

Holy **** those are some ugly ****ing bikes.

I know people are always saying that fixed gear has
"jumped the shark," but this time I think that they're
right.

i was told by one of my LBS owners that they were only making 300 of each bike. i think they're pretty lame, but what ever. you know they will sell like hot cakes to those who know nothing about track bikes but really wants one, isn't the story with langsters now?

thats what i was thinking too, mainly the front. it could be because of the toe-overlap they had to deal with.

It looks like in 2008, Specialized is trying to expand Langster to a niche market. I wouldn't rate these Langsters as a "track bike" but more of a casual single speed. I presume that these all have the relaxed geometry of the 2007 base Langster frame. The brakes, longer wheel base and 42 x 16 drive train is testimony that they not meant for the track.

also whats up with NYC being the only one without pedals? are there no pedals in New York?
New York's "unique style" doesn't involve pedals.

interesting... i like the langster frame with stock fork because its rather light compared to other bikes out there. however, these paint/part scemes seem to be on par with specialized general design sceme, ie, ********. the female specific frames are downright offensive, and the graphics on their DJ and DH bikes are the worst. this just adds to the list.

Form !> function

I can bet the LBSs are screaming. Instead of 1 Langster of each size, they're expected to stock 1 of each size, in 5 different versions.

I will be surprised if any of those Langsters ever makes it to production, nevermind to actual shops. The big S is just creating buzz.
