Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I don't know all of the specifics, although I am quite certain the internetz could provide a minimum of four versions of the specifics, but the basic idea is that the military and a bunch of colleges on the west coast doing a research project began the ball rolling on the internet. Alphanet? Albanet? Something like this. And it was long before Mr. Gore knew what a MAC address was. I think even Al has admitted that he took some artistic license with his comments. I like a guy that can laugh at himself. I know I have too enough.

This is however why he invented Google so we could look this stuff up.

Edit!!!! D@mn. Should have followed the link. Good thing I can laugh at myself. And hate myself.

al gore first invented snopes to hide his tracks

then he invented the internet

then he invented bike forums under the guise of a mild mannered utah-guy.

Well, actually, they invented a highly scalable, routable network protocol. The internet is more than just TCP/IP.

It's like saying roads + bicycles + cyclists = cycling. It's actually public roads + bike component companies + bike manufacturers + sports goods manufacturers + traffic regulations + LBS + publications + cyclists + bikes = cycling
