Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Right, I was thinking more for singlespeed, where removing the freewheel usually isn't necessary for bearing repacks.

I spun one of these mothers onto a wheel a few weeks ago (a customer had provided it) and immediately took it off and provided him with a freewheel that can actually be removed easily...once those things have tightened up punching them out rarely works.

The two notch freewheels are a PITA to remove without the use of a backing washer and nut to keep the tool snug and the tool itself has to be of pretty good quality so that it does not strip.

HELL yeah! I totally concur. Sadly, I have a few more of these 2-notch freewheels. Acquired while I was still naively thinking that, since it has notches, it certainly must be possible to remove. Right? Riiiiight....
