Rollin down the street... laid back
so... I am going to convert my current bike into a ss-coaster brake cruiser once the IRO comes or maybe the other way around but anyway... I am looking for a cheap, single speed, 32h coaster brake hub. I have googled until I could google no more and am looking for help from my fellow internet cyclists.

gin and juice, anyone?
Just be careful not to push that coaster-brake to hard. I accelerated wicked fast on mine, and the torque popped the lockring loose, causing a bit of a crash.

do a search and try to dig up an old thread by jimv, BF's coaster brake ex-guru. I wonder where he went?
If i remember correctly the velosteel hub out of the Czech Republic is the best out there for the money (cheap). Though they are quite hard to find.
I know that Kogswell recently placed an order for a bunch of them though. Try getting into touch with him.

BMX, kids bikes, and cruisers, use them. Any bike shop can get you one, if they really want to bother. I use a smallish BMX coaster brake hub (no brand name on it) laced to a decent 700c wheel. It's on a bike with no front brake. It works fine for me, however I take it easy in most places with that bike. It does not stop very well, I anticipate way ahead and slow early, similar to a fixie. I have no idea what would happen if I really started hammering on the thing.
There's no way I could stop as fast as a bike with two hand brakes, but it is a blast to ride this bike, I love it. I don't try big hills with it either.
Shimano still makes them. Retailers typically only sell things that are in demand. If they don't sell well, some people won't offer them for sale. But there's plenty of them around.

The plan to get some Velosteel hubs is moving ahead.
The invoice will be paid today and then it's just travel time from the Czech Republic.
The Velosteel hubs will not be good for coaster brake novitiates. They will have to be repacked straight out of the box. Not that anyone here won't be able to handle that. I just want to do what I can to be sure that folks enjoy there new hubs, not roast them.
