chainline questions for my new Paul hubs

hey everybody,
Just scored some sweet Paul hubs and I need to know what length bottom bracket I need for their 44mm chainline. Here is the trick, I am using some NOS Shimano 600 cranks (also sweet and cheap). I really want to run the chainring on outer position. After doing some searches on the board I found that a 107mm bottom bracket with 600's will give you a 42mm chainline, but Paul hubs have a weird 44mm thing going on. Any body using Paul hubs with a road double? or have any suggestions? I guess IF people are correct then I need a 109mm bottom bracket. Aren't many of those besides Phil and Sugino. I have found tons of 110mm. I believe that when ran with gears my cranks use a 113mm BB, which gives a outer chainline of 46mm (according to Sheldon), so take away 2mm and that gives me 44 chainline. So its either a 109 or 111? Maybe....crap.....

Anyways, any ideas or help is appreciated.
thanks

109 is total length so if the added length were symmetrical on both sides you'd need 4 more millimeters to add 2mm to your chainline.

the added length is not symmetrical, however, and i recall reading that 107 and 109 both have the same length on the drive side, meaning the extra 2mm does you no good whatsoever. but i cannot verify this, a search might help.

good luck with your dilemma. i'd take it to a shop or co op since they should have a range of bb's on hand.

I concur. Try it with one BB, check to see if it's inline. If not, use a longer one. Not everything has to be right the first time.
