Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hey All,

I'm a former bike courier who's super interested in getting a fixed gear bike. I've been turned on to Surly and KHS but other than that I haven't heard of many brands apart from build it yourself stuff. I'm a student so I'm on a bit of a fixed budget so price is an issue. Any insight would be sweet. I shot my wad on a killer road bike not leaving much left over for something a little more practical for the day to day but I need something and I like the sound of a fixed 'cause of the smoothness... not to mention the coolness. Plus I'm in good enough shape and I live in a flat enough spot that I think I'd do alright. Any direction is appreciated!

Thanks,
Meech

Just read through the postings and before you ask a question, do a search using the
search the forums link.

If you don't find what you're looking for, then start a thread.

There are a bunch of people here who will thrash you for not doing the search first. Chances are, someone already asked your question and it's been answered. Sometimes helpful, sometimes not.

Have fun! Go to Fixed Gear Gallery for bike porn. Check out the sponsor links there for gear and stuff.

If you are looking to buy a fixed gear bike, check out the Mercier Kilo TT on bikesdirect.com It's the sweetest deal on a budget fixie. Very nice bike for $349 complete.

Hope that helps.
