is my frame too small?

almost everytime i go out and make a sharp turn my front wheel bumps my leading sneaker. is this a sign of a small frame or poor cycling technique? it didnt happen with my last bike, which was too big for me. can someone link me up with a comprehensive bike sizing chart?

thanks,
Lee

how tall are you? what is your standover? what frame do you have? what size is it?
Some frame/fork sets have toe overlap at certain sizes.

Shorter cranks (say, 165mm) and smaller toe clips will reduce toe overlap. But be warned, cages too shallow for your feet may strain your foot and ankle if you pull up on the down stroke incessantly.

Had this problem on my pista and got smaller cages. Never considered foot problems, how would I know if they were too small?

true and most track frames will have toe overlap. just learn to make wider or slower turns and learn your bike's turning capabilities

Or go faster and then you won't turn your wheel much when you turn. It is going to be a problem while you are moving slowly though. Many frames have toe overlap, and riders usually get used to it by pointing their toe down as it comes around or timing the turn so they miss their foot. It becomes natural after a bit. But I ride a hug frame and don't acutally deal with this problem myself.

They are sized small, medium, etc. I saw a shoe size equivalent for sizing somewhere but I can't seem to find it now. I imagine the cages should allow you to have the ball of your foot over the pedal spindle while fully inserted, maybe even a bit more.

Just yesterday, I switched to larger cages on my pedals. Previously I didn't have toe overlap, but now I do. But the tradeoff is huge; my pedal stroke is more comfortable and seems more efficient. Toe overlap is a small price to pay in my case.

I used to ride LL (extra-large) size MKS clips, which were a little too big for me (shoe size 10). I was about fine in a size L- ridden in a size M and wasn't feeling it.
To reiterate: My completely subjective toeclip sizing guide:
If you're bigger than a 10 (say, 11+), get LL.
Below a 9, get M or S, I guess.

oh yeah, and now im thinking about getting bigger cranks because i have a wierd, custom miyata 165mm crankset and i can't find good chainring. if i bump it up to 170 (which is what im used to) will the toe overlap get worse? any yeah, im thinking you guys are right, i'll just have to learn to live with it. it only really happens when im starting up, going real slow.
anyways,
thanks,
lee

concerning the size of toe clips, i've noticed that an
'm' sized mks is smaller than an 'm' sized campagnolo.
i wear a size 9 and found the mks 'm' too small, while
the campy 'm' is perfect.

edit: …when i switched to a campy 'm' on my giro i gained overlap.

What does Toe-overlap have to do with you being to big for the bike?

You'll adjust to toe overlap in no time. Toe overlap has absolutely nothing to do with your fit on the bike.

Get sized properly, or atlleast post a pic.

Campy and any other euro s, m l cages are bigger than the MKS s, m, l cages. I ride a LL with 10.5-11 EEE feets in sneakers. I have no toe overlap, but It's a road conversion, so I have plenty of room all around.
