2) communication is key in any business interaction. in reality, all he had to do is follow up with his website consistently. any legitimate business that took your money and was MIA (no communication) for 3months would merit the same response in my opinion.

the 'group buy' frame is roughly 1/2 the normal price, and yes, while it is a great deal, still doesn't merit this blind faith attitude that this company is exempt from standard business practices that some people here suggest. ive owned 2 other iro frames (angus and mark v) and am very supportive of the company (i've talked postively about the company in many other posts and suggested it as start bikes for friends). however, a business responsibility is a responsibility to his customers to keep them informed/updated of their status. anyone who says otherwise should send me $50 and ill get back to them in about 3months .....

im not bashing anyone. im just being critical of irresponsible management/operations

I measured the rear spacing on the inside of the track ends, ~halfway along their length.

Yeah, the customer service could have been a bit better, but you have to think about what this is: it's a great price from a small shop. Tony could have put a 100 frame (or whatever) limit, and then there would have been a bunch of complaining about THAT.

Tony is trying to get things under control. If you look at the IRO site you'll see that:

IRO CYCLE will be closed until July 9th.

We will be catchig up on orders.

+1

Rikardi151 07-04-07 10:48 AM

just a quick confirmation that yes, the rear spacing is a BIT more than 120mm.

mattdd 07-04-07 10:54 AM

Why are you bashing this guy for expressing a legitimate complaint? For the record, I DO run a small service/manufacturing business, and I can tell you that customer service is everything.

And I agree that communication from Tony could have been better--it would have been relatively simple to put relevant info/FAQ's on the group buy link. That would have gone a long way toward easing people's minds.

It's unfortunate but true that people are much, much more likely to complain than to compliment, and that's the primary reason to keep your customers happy and, most importantly, informed.

well put, 2am.

WTF is my email. sad.

Tony Arms 07-04-07 11:14 PM

Shame about the scratches on the frame. Rear spacing is 122mm. I set up all my frames that way.
120mm hub should slide right in. OD of the seat tube is 29.6 with some paint a little more. I would think any thing from a 29.6 to a 30.0 clamp should work for the seat tube.
210 framesets have shipped. There is one known issue 3 blue 53 1" frame orders were sent 1 1/8" frames.
Let me know who you are and I will get the right frameset out to you.

About my business practices I don't do web design, I can't answer all the emails I get right away. We have 2 phone lines. If we are on them, The phone seems to keep ringing on your end. Best time to call is the afternoon.

Anyone looking to relocate to Middleburg Pa. and help out answering phones and answering emails should get in contact with me. There is a job waiting for you.

As my late son always told me. "Don't sweat the small stuff"

what sort of pay are we talking about here?

doofo 07-04-07 11:20 PM

all the 29ers you can eat

Carbocation 07-04-07 11:54 PM

Just got the email from Tony for my green frame. It's good to know that he's working late on a holiday to get our orders out.

I know that some people are excited/upset, but IRO has been a trusted company on these forums for several years, so just be patient.

Igneous Faction 07-05-07 12:29 AM

My frame will be here on Friday. I predict that when this is all over, no one will have been ripped off. CHILL.

BuddyMike 07-05-07 12:36 AM

shogun17 07-05-07 02:01 AM

damnit, i really wanted this thread to end with shogun17 getting his email.

This whole group buy has gone exactly as I expected. Every step of the way has been completely normal as I see it. You place an order for future delivery and lay down a small deposit. Then sit back and wait till it's all done. Pay the balance and get product. Other than troubleshooting mistakes and errors, what is the need for all this "communication"?

Thanks, Tony, for everything. It's been a pleasure doing business with you....

+1. I guess that some people just need you to hold their hand and have a progress report for them every day. I don't really need to hear that the tubesets are sitting in a queue at the factory, or sitting on a container ship at sea. All of the information about the frames was known before the group buy was over. Geometry, specs on the tubes, seatpost size, etc. It was known ahead of time that it would be about a 3 month wait for them to get them here.

666pack 07-05-07 10:56 AM

ups just dropped off my frame!

excellent. no scratches on it at all, looks to be in really good shape.
thanks a lot tony. i'm gonna go build this thing now.

dblock 07-05-07 11:36 AM

what movie?

Gomez308 07-05-07 11:50 AM

My blue came today. Couple of scratches , but nothing through the paint. Overall it looks great, but the fork could double as a hammer.
