Anyonehave a pattern for sewing a cycling cap?
I want to make a cycling cap, and was wondering if anyone had a pattern I could follow. if not I might be able to figure it out...but a pattern might be nice.

No pattern though. Send blickblocks a PM. Try DoshKel too. I'm pretty sure he's made a few. |
google is your friend
remember that getting the bill at exactly the right angle is difficult. Too high and it will get in the way of the helmet and not shade properly but too low and you won't be able to see. |
Pace had their pattern posted on their website, that's where I ganked it.

Damn! I never knew about those Pace patterns.. that probably would have saved me some time. I need to get my machine fixed asap!
|
Now here's a question.. anyone know where you can get euro-champ striped ribbon?
|
what are euro-champ stripes?
|
I don't know what they're actually called.. whatev. The red/green/yellow/white etc stripes?
|
I just took apart an old cap to get a pattern, I didn't realize there were ones online. i guess it just never occured to me. I love making caps.
edit: these right? http://www.womenscycling.net/jpegs/F...rldStripes.gif They're world champion stripes. I don't know where to get them though. |
I've made a few really nice ones, and then a bunch of ****ty ones. My machine is being really dodgy. I always **** it up when I have to sew the sweatband/elastic/brim in.
I need to get my **** together, I have some sweet ideas for hats! |

What are you folks using for the bill material? |
Yeah, those stripes.
I'm not sure what the stuff I used is called, I asked @ the fabric store what to use for a hat brim and they pointed me towards this stuff. I'd like to find something thats more rigid. The stuff I'm using now kind of makes a softer brim, which isn't bad but the really rigid/plastic stuff would be nice. |
disposable tupperware.
|
I initially used two to three layers of old cardboard album covers. They get kind of flimsy after about a year though. Things that have been laminated work really well. also some thick leather is sweet if you're not vegan. it's still soft and bendable, but rigid enough to keep it's shape all the time.

I wish I wasn't at work so I could go home and make some hats!
|
Yeah, those pace patterns are great. The first one I based off the four panel hat came out perfect.

Good thing I've been procrastinating on my next runs of hats, that Pace pattern looks really nice! I'm going to get going on 'em tonight, I hope I can have 4 for the winners of "The Snake" on Saturday.
|
I tried making one using a stiff fabric for the center panel and stretchy for the sides. Didn't work, and I can't articulate exactly what's wrong with it. I'll try again later with regular fabric.
|
I made one tonite with the Pace pattern, it's really nice! Still gotta figure out how to do the elastic and all that junk the best though.
|
Post a pic!
|
I gotta fix it, then I will!
|
Yeah, really keen to see some photos.
