Small bikes, very tall seatposts

Small bikes, very tall seatposts
I've noticed some people seem to use their seatpost astronomically high. It looks very kool, but how do they get away with it without suffering the consequences? Is it by purchasing small bikes frames and thus being able to compensate by using their seats very high?

got any pics?
I have a small old frame I'm building up and I'm planning to put a long seat post on it so I can attempt to fit on it decently. if it ends up being a stoopid idea I'll eventually sell it.

Bikes: Azuki Single Speed, Austro-Daimler Fixed gear, Windsor Hour Fixed, Iro Jamie Roy frameset, Schwinn Moab 2, lots of old bmx bikes from walmart and stuff when i was younger.
60-62 gets ahold of my junk on standover height.
58 doesn't, but my 250mm seatpost is almost to the minimum insertion mark on my 58 frame.
I don't even wanna talk about my "59" IRO.

i tried it for a while, i had a wonderful frame that was just a touch to small. the bike was fantastic but i just couldnt get comfortable on it for longer rides. ride bikes that fit!!!

(when this had drop bars, i just had the b125s... the drops were just above the top of the fork crown.. it was silly)

I was fitted for this frame (59) and I don;t know. I stressed my right knee and now it is bothering me. It might've been the 48x15 gearing it came with. This bike being my first bike since I was a little kid.

I've got a 24" Hiawatha with 26" wheels that just fit. I've used a solid aluminum seatpost to get up over the frame.

Bikes: a lot...
Ya know I'll sound like a c**k when I say this but stand over height is a really poor method to get fit for a bike. FME on a proper track frame with a high BB your bits will almost always be on top tube. Running small frames is kind of lame you'd be faster on the right frame anyway. First thing I look at when picking out a frame is Top tube ctc. My 2 cents..

the guy who makes the "Big bike look small" used to be called seatpost at the new england velodrome races. but yeah, tall people have trouble fitting on anything, especially with the shift to s, m, l, xl sizing.
