I admire the idea of a factory-direct group buy, but with all due respect, I suspect you're not going to get much traction or eventual success.
People of the BFSSFG forum, I ask you... How do you plan to get a commerical letter of credit to prove you have the money to pay for the frames before the factory aquires production materials and reserves production time/space? Do any of you have a relationship with a commercial container shipping agency to assist you with getting the frames loaded into a container and shipped from Asia? And what about the approx US$4000+ in freight fees that it will cost to get the container from Taiwan to LA? Who in this forum is versed in the complex processes of making customs declarations, clearing customs and paying import duties and taxes? And what about the simple need to have a loading dock and a warehouse for unloading the container's contents? For all of these reasons, and many more, I predict that you won't be able to pull this idea off cleanly. Tony at IRO knows how to do all of these things, and he has an e-commerce site already established to take payments from individual consumers, that's why the group buy worked out. Not only does Tony know what he's doing, but he has a good relationship with a factory. Additionally, I would suspect he pays a commission to an agent in Asia to help smooth over the confusing/complex aspects of doing business there. Go ahead and try... Don't let me stop you... Just a dose of reality... |
