Nowadays I see the term hipster as a valid description of a something like a sub-culture, rather than a term with negative connotations. One year ago I'd see about two fixed-gear riders a month, sometimes both being the same rider. These days I see fifteen to twenty riders a month. Aslo see the bikes more and more locked up on the sidewalk, at the organic market etc. All but one or two riders will have that distinctive look:
- riding knickers and cap - messenger bag - cards in the back wheel - frame 4-6cm too small (by roadbike standards) to accomodate... - massive drop from seat to handlebars - BIG gears - track drops, , flip 'n chops, bullhorns, straight, or riser bars Its cool, its a style and a statement...I guess. At least they're riding bikes. Anyway, I'm glad I set up my fixed as a road bike with F/R brakes, traditional drops, and OP rims. P.S. [whispered] Psst, anyone want to buy an never-been-used Chrome bag?:lol: |
