i ride all the time with my iPod. if it really freaks you out, just put the earbud in your right ear and leave your left open for listening to traffic(or vice versa for you euros). but really you would need to be playing those tunes pretty loud to not be safe on the road.

I ride with an iPod all the time, but I'm also in a college town where everyone rides a beach cruiser.

I thought every adult with a fully functioning brain did the same thing...
Fo' real WTF do I care what other people do when it doesn't affect others? Do you peek into others people's bedroom to see what they're doing? I don't.

What about those bone conduction headphones? Wouldn't affect your ears at all, though would probably still get all you grannies distracted.

I finally have the solution!
Yup... it's the walkman-cell phone-ipod with external speakers. This **** CRANKS.. and luckily my backpack has a strap pocket for a cell phone. I got this way back in november and loved it cuz it had the "ipod" type mp3 feature on it... even bought the 2gb sony memory disk for it. And have yet to really use it past the fm radio and the LED flashlight.
But then today.. i was riding down a quiet road next to the inner harbor... and i was like "man i want some music" and i thoguth about my external speaker cell phone. putting it in the pocket also muffles it a tiny bit (which is good cuz then its not that loud an obnoxious), but its perfect I hear all road noise when i hit a busy intersection.. but when its a quiet ride, i can hear the music. it's a perfect balance for me to be fully aware!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
(only con is that 2 hours of riding with it drains my battery all the way down, but whatever).
