soyo red SII valve question

I'm having problems with pumping the tires. The standard nozzle on the bike pump for a presta or shraeder valve isn't a tight fit and allowing air leak. Am i just using the wrong nozzle and need something special for this type? TIA

Heres an image of the valve:

Replace it with something normal, and repost in classic and vintage.

Edit: just realized this is on a tubular tire. Has this thing ever held air? If it's old enough to have an odd valve, it probably needs replacing anyway. Old tubs are fun for a few miles, then BOOOM and you're walking.

Pretty sure it's a Woods valve, with an oddball core stuck into it. Never saw an un-threaded Woods core, but then I haven't seen many newer Woods valves. My understanding is that newer versions have a more modern design, doesn't require rubber tubing and spit.

That is the exact same valve on the quater-century old Soyo tubulars on the wheelset that came with a 1982 Japanese track frame I recently picked up.
