OK, I'll let you in on the next big *THING*, since spoke cards have now been "outed" as an obvious cry for validation from others.
This is what I've been doing for a while now--whatever I have left over from lunch I jam in between the spokes of my rear wheel.
It's a great conversation starter (since that seems to be the only thing stated in defense of spoke cards), and you don't came across as elitist ("I've been to races, and *you* haven't")
Actual conversation overheard in the outskirts of the badlands of Cambridge:
Biker #1: "Dude! Is that a pastrami on rye?"
Biker #2: "Yo! It got all kindz o' crazy mustahd on it too!"
Biker #1: "And chips man... you got a bag of chips in there too! Damn, I'm getting hungry."
Biker #2: "Yo..."
Biker #1: "Dude! You're too crazy! Would you like to meet my sister?"
Bikee #2: "YO!"

Well in that case, I'll start riding around with empty boxes on my bars. Maybe I'll duct tape a box onto my bars so that I can still keep both hands on the drops. Maybe I'll get a radio and mount it on my bag, too. If I'm a fakenger, I better do it right!

Properly used, I clothespin them to my frame, so it makes motor sounds while I bike as they pass through the spokes. Balloons have a deeper sound, but are not very aero- hence the cards.

i haven't yet figured out how spoke cards are elitist.
i race and other people don't. so what? without any statements about how racing is superior to not racing, how is it elitist?
if people are so insecure that they can't stand proof of other people's interests or experiences without feeling bad for not liking or participating in similar things, well, then, come on.
let's grow up and end the ridiculous amount of assumptions going on between people. let's treat each other like humans and not like repositories for ill will.

god, i love bike forums.
i'll defend my spokecards when i see you at a race. i'll be at the rest of the five boro generals series, the king of the ****in' streets race this weekend, the labor race in september, the scumbag cup in boston, at least one of the philly summer slam races, and the rest of the prospect park summer slam races. over the next two months, i'll be pretty easy to find. i'll be racing. you'll be talking **** about my spokecards over the internet.
have fun, darlin', i'm gonna go party!

I really want to lock this thread but I just can't. That pastrami on rye and bag-o-chips in the spokes photoshop made my morning. That thing Moximitre posted is nothing to sneeze at either.

(the people who are calling spoke cards elitest and hipster-y don't have spoke cards)
what?
i have one lonely spokecard from a ****ing scavenger hunt alleycat race (NOT INTENSE) but it was a ****load of fun- why is it on my bike still? it was less than a week ago, it's a great memmory and a nice starter for someone who sees it and says 'oh man you went to pillage?' 'yeah dude it was great i reccomend it, lots of fun'
so hows that elitest or hipster-like?
what the hell is being a hipster anymore, other than who you don't like doing what you do like?

i just keep my spokecards in a box. i'd rather hang on to them than have them fall out of my spokes or something like that.

A friend was telling me about a comic where this girl was putting a bunch of halloween costumes on her cat. She had a package that was a hipster costume. She opened the package. All that was inside the package was a card that instucted one to "Complain about hipsters." So true.
