You could also get a quill adapter and use any threadless stem you want with a removable face plate.

If you skip the 'looks good' part, you can find any number of $10 zoom/fuji oem/h2o stems like this one.

I am super serial about this.
Fixed.

After much research I went this route. The adapter was cheap and lighter than I expected. I did run into a problem with the butted head tube preventing it from being inserted all the way, which looked pretty bad. If you have a larger frame(I was putting it in a 52 cm), it should look fine.

You didn't mention the clamp dia you need: 25.4 or 26mm. Newer bars are more likely (I think) to be 26mm, so I need to find a 90-100mm stem that will accommodate that.

yeah make sure your sizing is right, I made that mistake. Older schwinn, and didnt know at the time that there where different size quill stems.

All those stems are kind of silly. How often do you need to change your stem? I would rather have a nice, clean, uncomplicated design, because there really isn't much to removing the bar tape and lever on one side to replace the stem. Once you have your fit dialed in, there's little need to replace it anyway.

Some bars are a nightmare to try to fit into one-piece stems. That removable faceplate is a godsend when dealing with mary bars, for instance.

Deda makes or used to make (most likely) quill stems that have a very unnoticeable "hidden" removable faceplate (a bottomplate technically). I still have mine that I used to mount risers on my nagasawa for those special occasions when I still had it. Best of all from far away or from a quick glance it can easily fool people into thinking it is a nitto stem.

Tried to find a site selling it but to no avail (gives me thoughts it was discontinued); it looks like this:

The black cap has the deda "D" logo....

i think its discontinued but still widely available. its a deda murex. most of them were anodized gray or black, but i think there were a few polished ones. i took a gray one i got and polished it myself (not sure why any one would want to buffalo people into thinking you have a nitto stem instead of an italian made deda...)

edit: just looked and the murex is still on deda's site. they have black, gray, and matte silver

anyway:

Here's my old Deda stem. I never knew what model it was but it had a nice silver finish and the cap was a royal blue D. I wish the previous owner didn't chop it, it was way too low!
