That's not really that annoying, but an entry will be drawn sometime soon for an expenses-paid trip to the Pacific Northwest for "deconstuction"...

I find it very difficult to believe the police actually responded to a call like this. There was no accident, no witnesses, etc... I was repeatedly harassed by the same driver on my commute- at the same location (twice). The second time I confronted him and he threatened to run me over next time. The police were sympathetic and would do nothing. I took matters into my own hands and published a rant on Craigslist. A DMV employee contacted me and ran his plates. I received a wealth of information. Turned our he lived quite near me.

I kinda want to call bull**** on this too. This is the same dude who posted "cop pulls me over, but soon regrets it" or whatever, and that was a pretty phony sounding story also. Part of me thinks this dude is full of crap.

Good luck.
+1! I'd also say that that car collection is a little expensive even for the attending. I'd be willing to wager that either this guy inherited his money, married his money, or has been dealing his way into his money. His behavior is a big red flag in itself that he might be self medicating. Notifying the hospital risk management staff or QA/QI department of the incident may not just save your hide, you may help save the life of one or more of his patients.

+1million! Or they only know how to change society through destruction, rather than community building and responsibility. They ask what their county can do for them, and never ask what they can do for their country.

Honestly? You just sound like an ******* for saying that. Not saying this guy isn't an *******, but why do you hate on people for buying nice cars? My dad used to have a Porsche, it was a beautiful piece of machinery. He saved up for a long time to buy it. I would love to own one. Neither my Dad nor I have a "haughty ego." In fact, some older Porsches get really decent MPG when compared to other sports cars.

Yeah, it really wasn't too bad. It was an 1987 911 Cabriolet, one without the big ugly Turbo fin. I'm not even a car lover and I thought that car was sexy as ****.

I was on my morning commute today on my single speed Kona Unit (42Tx17T), when a Porsche Carrera 4 (911) zoomed very close past me, crowding me into the curb on a broad boulevard. This was the 6th time this summer the same driver has done this intimidating driving maneuver, so this time I rode around the parking lot at work (a hospital), found the Porsche, and took down the plate number and description of the car. The hospital police would not do anything because it happened off hospital grounds, but they did call the city police.

A city police search of the license number showed that the culprit was a doctor at the hospital (chief of anethesiology, in fact). By this time, there were two uniformed city police as well as a three hospital police. They called this doctor in his office and had him come down to the hospital police room and gave him a good talking to. The bully arrogantly tried to defend his actions. He lied to the officers, saying he had to swerve into me this morning to avoid hitting another car (not true). One of the things he said to me later was that he would often pull up to me on my bike 4 miles from work, yet I would beat the traffic and get to the hospital before him (in his porsche). This made him mad he said, because I must be running red lights. He also said that I take up too much of the far right lane on the broad boulevard in question (also not true), so he wanted to "show me" were I should be riding (two inches from the curb apparently). He said bike riding on the street is a dangerous activity and he called me an organ donor. He tried to bargain with me, saying that he won't crowd me anymore as long as I (in turn) follow every traffic rule myself. To this I glanced at the officers and said that this (so far) is not me getting serious. Drive like that again, and I will start to get serious! That shut him up. He promised to give me plenty of room in the future. He said that when he passes me from now on, he will give me a friendly wave. I said that's fine, but don't honk.
wah wah wah .....be the better man.
life is life.......if you were really upset ,you would smash a cinder block on his "A" pillar(where the windshild meets the hood) and he will deal with the 9,000 dollars worth of damage.

you wouldnt be smack talking him.

I will say Im not the better man........eff his sizzle up brother

When I told the culprit that he was the only driver who repeatedly pulled this maneuver on me, he said that just proves I was wrong, because he also drives his Ferrari and BMW to work. If a doctor owns a Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW, the chance of him being an a-hole becomes astronomical.

I don't recommend vandalizing cars for revenge. First of all, with security cameras, it is not worth the risk. Also, it would stoop to his level and would also not stop his behavior.

I thought it was interesting how arrogant he was even when facing the many police officers, as he said that I needed to change my behavior, because I was bringing his anger upon myself, for unintentionally beating him to work on my commute. I was also shocked at how he blatantly lied, saying he was forced into swerving into me this morning to avoid hitting another car. That was such a lame excuse (there were no other cars involved this morning) and it did not explain the other times he strafed me.

As we walked back to our offices, the Porsche-driving doctor asked me "How do you beat me into work on a bicycle?" As he was trying to get me to admit that I run red lights.

I said "Conditioning, I ride 5,000 miles a year."

He said "Maybe I should ride a bicycle to work too."

I said "I recommend it to everyone" (even a-holes) *under my breath*

If you want to nail a harrassing driver, here is some advice:
1. Record the time, date, and exact location of the incident
2. Practice reading license plates on normal traffic passing you, as it will become second nature in an emergency
3. Along with the plate, get a description of the car's make, model, and color. This helps if you only get a partial plate and helps convince the cops that the incident really happened
4. Get a description of the driver, as some cars have more than one owner, or the driver can claim that he was not driving. This also helps convince the cops that your account is more accurate.
5. Know the jurisdiction of were the incident took place. The police have defined territories that they will not cross or inforce.
6. Do not lie to the police, even if you think it may help your case. If I had lied and said the incident happened on hospital grounds to get the hospital cops more involved, the culprit could have punched holes in my account. As it turned out, the city police were more aggressive in finding the culprit and were more effective in intimidating him.
Eccellent points all over the place. I would just add: carry a digital camera with you at all times, ready to take pics of offenders like that a-hole doctor.

sounds like a lot of jealousy over cars going on here, from a bunch of young guns who will eventually grow up and buy fast cars themselves. and there's a lot of unfounded angst towards doctors: though i will admit that many are indeed arseholes, you guys are accusing people you have no idea about using a whole bunch of personal assumptions. chill out a little.

porsche are nice cars, older porsche 911s are as economical and cost much the same as many GM tanks that you're happy with. sure, some ******s drive them, but many porsche owners are not ******s. stop generalising so much and cut your fellow earth-inhabitants some slack.

First of all, this is a true story. I ride 5,000 miles per year, so I have lots of anecdotes and experiences about commuting and riding.

The hospital police did at first refuse to do anything because the incident(s) happened off hospital grounds. They gave me the phone number of the city police for me to call, but I insisted that the hospital police make the call for me, which they did. This turned out to be a smart move on my part as the city police responded very promptly to a call made by the hospital cops. I am not sure how the city police would have responded if I had made the call myself.

In case you want to know what kind of bike it takes to beat a Porsche Carrera 911, here is a description of my Kona Unit. It came stock as a single speed mountain bike with an orange paint job, heat-treated air-hardened ultralight True Temper steel frame, wide bars, full knobby tires, 34/17 gearing (52 gear inches), and a 4 arm 104bcd crank. I have lousy off-road skills, so I recently converted it to an urban assault SS commuter.

I chopped the bars down to 51cm, installed shorty grips, installed a 5 arm 130bcd road crank, installed a 42T Suntour Superbe Pro chainring (excellent finish), drilled the frame BB shell for water drainage, installed an FSA Platinum BB to get the chain line perfect, upped the gearing to 42/17 (64 gear inches), installed SPD pedals, and installed a rear clip-on fender. I found a pair of Kenda 26x1.95 knobby tires that have the center knobs close together, so this bike rolls smooth on the road, yet can cope with grass, gravel, and dirt.

This thing makes a sweet but tough commuter. It is light, geared perfectly, and can handle any rough road with ease. It looks like and rides like a SuperMoto motorcycle. Is it fast? Just ask the Porsche driver.
