Well, i tried using a Thomson mtb stem with some syntace bullhorns and it started digging into the bullhorns. i had read enough that i believed it would work just fine, but it seems that Thomson may have more of an issue than others since they have more of the circumference on the stem portion, which would equal 25.4 than they do on the open face place. perhaps it was more symmetrical with the open face stem, it would work.

Not ALL road bars are 26.0 (or 31.8 these days). But most of the Nitto bars that I ever saw were in a 25.4 application, so I was going off that fact but...from reading other posts, apparently Nitto does quite a few 26.0 bars also, which I did not realize was the case. For instance, I had no idea that all or most of their bullhorns were 26.0.

If you don't really pay attention to how you set your gear up, I suppose a 26.0 will "fit" in a 25.4 clamp. I guess some folks just don't care.

However, I just tried to do the same thing, and it did not give me a warm and snuggly feeling, so I am waiting for Mr. UPS to bring me a new 26.0 stem.

so yeah, you can put a 26mm bar into 25.4mm stem, just be sure the clamp area on the bar is strong enough not to become deformed in the clamp that is too small for it.

I got a bike on ebay a while ago that came with a 26mm bar in a 25.4mm stem and the bar was definitely crimped. if i can find the bar, i'll post pics later.

i don't think it's worth ****ing around when it comes to a handlebar stem set up.
an injury from a broken handlebar or stem would suck.
