i just finished building up a bareknuckle. its my first build and i just took it for its first ride.


as i rode my fork felt really wobbly. i rode on a fairly flat road. is it my head set?

i'm betting it's the headset or the hub. is your headset threaded or threadless? is the hub new?

wobbly as in twitchy handling? If it's a loose headset, it'll be obvious....there will be play that you can feel and see without even riding the bike.

congratulations, you bought a track bike. you'll get used to the twitchy handling eventually.

Clamp the front brake down and move the bike back and forth and you will be able to tell the source easier.

I know for a fact that when a threaded headset is too tight it feels twitchy or wobbly, and when you make even the slightest turn it feels as if the bike is diving. I assume things would be the same with a threadless one.

Do you have enough spacers?

same thing was happening to me. it's the headset, it's most likely too tight.

when I have experienced 'wobbly fork' it has been when the headset has loosened up....
unless of course he is just talking about the geometry.

is it front and rear play? as in, if the wheel is straight, is the problem moving the fork forwards and backwards? that would indicate, to me, loose headset.

Not to be snarky, but the real problem here is that you built up a $600 frame with no idea WTF you were doing. Find someone who knows what they're doing to help you in person or take it to a shop.
