Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Yes, but only in a way that is awesome, hilarious and just looks completely ridiculous to bystanders.

I like my brakeless bike with BMX platforms. (soon to have a rack installed)
...the secret is in the low gearing. Perfect for urban riding.

When I see another fixie, I pick my bike up and throw it in front of the nearest bus. You guys should do the same so we all know who's part of bikeforums.

I would like to state that the posts herein are in no way indicative of the vast number of bicycle riders in the greater Philadelpia area. The Philadelphia riding community (which includes all folks who ride bikes) is generally made up of nice, fun people who like to ride bikes of the sort they feel the most comfortable on. Please disregard the nonsense (Skid Salute et al) posted previously by BF members hailing from Philadelphia or its surrounding suburbs, as it in no way represents the daily reality here in the City of Brothely Love.

you know what's funny, i recently met someone who rides platforms and no brakes and does so competently on a 47x14 ratio.

then again, he's kind of crazy. but in the best possible way.

There's a guy around here who rides brakeless on platforms and a suicide hub. He says it's ok cause he's Asian and I believe him. He's like a bike ninja.
