Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Your favorite conversion? The Best?

I'm trying to build up a really nice conversion. Sounds funny maybe vs. a new bike w/ track ends, but there you go.

What's the best conversion you've ever seen?

This is mine, a Carlton:

Coincidentally with Nitto 617's as well. The key ingredient in a great conversion.

I'm still partial to mine. First, when it was fixed/brakeless:

Current state, as a flat bar singlespeed:

Basso road frame, rear wheel built with an ENO eccentric hub and a Sun CR18 rim. Total sex.

Bikes: Gazelle Trim Trophy, EG Bates Track Bike, HR Bates Cantiflex bike, Nigel Dean fixed gear conversion, Raleigh Royal, Falcon Westminster.

My two are below. Yes, the Nigel Dean is too small for me, and now has an outlandishly long seatpost, and the stoopidest riding position evar.

muh Peugeot...I've converted many bikes but for some reason this one remained in the quiver and is my choice for the casual trips. I think it's the orange? Heavy and smoove like a 77 olds cutlas.

Nice pics... I don't have any of my old conversion but it was an incredible ride, Rossin Cromor... I loved that thing, so stable, so comfy for 40 hours a week of riding.

Bikes: tirove

i'm a huge fan of eccentric hubbed 90'd road and hybrid bikes that kick ass.
that basso is bananas, be ay en ay en ay es.
i'm seriously considering doing that to a 90's GT like an aggressor for a singlespeed cross bike.

Said it before and I'll say it again: a conversion is better than a track bike or a newer bike that came with track ends.

Hail the pink nightmare! And damn how do I take these bars off this bike and put them on the bike that I ride without having to undo the bar tape and take off the levers that are welded on with Montreal road salt, sigh?
