Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

On claiming "edge": This forum is about bikes. Send me a personal message if you wanna talk convictions. Someone just brought it up cause I have it listed on my profile.

Word.

I'm 41, will be 42 this year, and use front and rear brakes on my fixie. In the four alleycats we've held here in the Rocket City, I've won the last two and came in second the first two. One reason is the brakes; I can haul @ss up to the stop signs/intersections and use my brakes to stop faster than the other guys.

When I think about it, I can't skid but when it's important to stop very quickly, I seem to skid like a pro. Using the brakes and trying to lock up the rear works well for me.

Brakes are good.

And now, here's a pic of our bike rack in front of the finish line pub:

that's my San Jose on the left.

I wish I had a tree like that at my house, I'd hang cool but crusty bikes from it on a permanent basis.
