pursuit frames

where do you guys get a hold of pursuit frames? They seem so elusive. I found a TT frame that looks interesting. Have any of you guys converted an old TT by adding new drops/forkends?

vobopl 09-11-07 11:12 PM

yes.
setting the rear to 120 mm, adding fork ends, modifying geometry for steeper ( shorter fork and rear fork ends lower on the frame than the original dropouts used to be) resulted in the best handling/fitting bike I have, despite the frame being too small originally.

What's the difference between a pursuit bike and a sloping track bike?

Anyway, my friend Marty builds these:

I just got one (albeit for too much money) on ebay. They actually usually sell real cheap. Search for 'pursuit' 'funny' and/or 'tt'/'time trial' in Cycling on ebay.

gfrance 09-12-07 09:52 AM

2nd Ebay. I seem to be seeing plenty lately.

I for one never feel compelled to bid though. I can't imagine riding one off the track.

Gambutrol 09-12-07 10:22 AM

How small do these frames run? I've been interested in building up a pursuit bike myself, but I need a 49-51cm virtual seat tube length.

ryand 09-12-07 10:38 AM

I picked up my Guerciotti TT bike for $100.

Build is almost finished, but half you guys wouldn't care because I'm building it with gears.

G0balistik 09-12-07 05:23 PM

i ride my tommasini pursuit everywhere right now, and yeah its not comfortable for long ride, but i rode it the other night for 13ish miles and had no soreness the next day. I am young and flexy though. the pursuit frames youa re looking for are hard to find because they are illegal on the track (with the 650c front wheel) at leas tif you are looking for the funny bike style that is so attractive. Keep on ebay, a dealer on there named Mozzy zhop or soemthing has many italian frames and thats where my pursuit was originally purchased and shipped to the US.

deathhare 09-13-07 07:06 AM

There should be a funny bike pic thread.
Or maybe there was one at one point. I seem to remember.
I dont have one of these rides but i like pics of them. :)

ryand 09-13-07 07:53 AM

There is a funny bike pic thread. Somewhere.

br995 09-13-07 08:10 AM

Man. The more I see the prices of this stuff, the more I realize that I spent WAYYY too much on my frame, even if it does have the most amazing paint job ever.

Yeah I saw that up a few days ago, looks like it could be prettied up into an awesome ride.
What're you gonna do about the "specially bladed Columbus seat post" that it requires?

666pack 09-13-07 08:28 AM

the columbus seatpost is included with the auction!
along with a 650c front!

good find.

you *******, this is the frame that made me start this thread to begin with! You barely overbid me. I was at work without access to a computer towards the end of the auction so I couldn't fight back. That's alright though, there will be others. Have fun with it.

pursuit look great but all they'll give you is a back ache in the long run. It seems it has no real purpose for being in the streets because your not going to be going that fast to use it for its purpose....but then again an orthodox track racer might say the same for us who use a track back on the streets. o well do what you like.

anomaly 09-13-07 10:51 AM

I want one of the Haro F1/Pursuit bikes with the 20" front and 24" rear

Schwinn Prologue 56 ST takes a 24" front wheel.

I'll take photos of the frame / fork, seatpost / saddle, front wheel, and boxes o vintage campy tonight.
I'll try to remember to at least.

And the Columbus bladed seatpost came with mine. If it didn't I wouldn't have bought it, would have been such a ***** to find.

Heres an old teaser shot:
