they're going on a pista.
|
why the team pro over the swift? for that matter, did you consider the arione (or other 'modern' design saddle)? your seatpost choice could be based on two-bolt adjustment, setback, and clamp style over aesthetics, in which case the nitto or thomson is a worthwhile choice.
+1 on RR1.2s if you decide you need a deep-section rim, but as far as i know they only come in black with a machined sidewall. |

34 cm bars? WTF?
are you some sort of 60-pound midget? have fun breathing with your chest all compressed like that. narrow bars are a lot hipper than they are comfortable. |

go ahead and post this build straight to the jackass thread and save us the trouble
|
so do u have any of these so called parts? the japan-italian coalition is quite interesting.

Damn you guys are harsh! I wonder what the skeptic brigade thinks about my new Phil/CXP-33 wheelset (with double butted DT spokes).

oh my god! someone else noticed the difference between b-123's and b123aa's. dutret is going to tell us all in a completely objective manner why we're wrong and he's the diety of the cycling world.
although dutret, i do agree with you - no need for the fancy mks nuevos if you're not going to use cleats with them. |

if the 123's are the shallow drop ones then that's what i'd get. i'd get the cheaper Al stem instead of steel and get the AL bars too, i like bars to be responsive, not dead. 34cm is waayyyyyy too narrow.
deepVs are heavy. get a nice light rim and light tire and your bike will feel better. |
It's been done. But have fun. Pistas need love too. Sugino 75 cranks BB and ring, thomson elite post, IRD stem, nitto bars, Fizik tape and saddle(and what a saddle!) deep Vs 32H laced to phil high flange hubs.

Too harsh, guys..
But they're right about almost everything.. they make bars 34cm wide? I hope that was a typo, you certainly don't want bars that narrow. 1/8" drivetrain will be ideally be little smoother and more efficient, 3/32" will ideally be quieter and stronger. In practicality, you probably won't notice the difference in smoothness, and unless you get the right cog and chain (PC-68 and EAI worked wonders for me), then it might not be too quiet. And you probably know all the issues with chainring abundance, so I won't go into that. I would definitely reconsider the rims. They're 500g each! That's more than two pounds in your rims alone! They are very tough though, although you can get lighter rims that are also tough. Phils are sweet, don't let anyone put down your Phils. But if you really want to slurge, get LeVeL hubs.. Hubjub has them. And really, no need for the steel/chrome nonsense. You can get polished aluminum that's almost as shiny without the weight (and price) penalty. As others have said, Al rides a little nicer in the front end. Either way, you'll build a sweet bike. I wouldn't be criticizing if you didn't ask for it :p Now all you need is a new frame... |

Crank/BB = Sugino 75 (Silver) Chainring = Sugino Zen 48t - a 47t would be better more skid patches Chain = Izumi model V Super Toughness - sram pc-1 is just as strong and an eighth the price Cog = EAI Superstar 15t and 17t (one for whatever, one for going fast) Stem = Nitto (Chrome/Steel) Jaguar 100mm Bars = Nitto (Chrome/Steel) B-123 34cm -right I doubt your shoulders are that narrow Pedals = MKS gr-9's Toe Straps = Toshi Double (Red) Saddle = Brooks Team Pro (Chrome/Honey) I know, it sort of clashes... - don't forget the seat cover Hubs = Phil Wood Wheels = Velocity Deep V (Red) - junk rims get a set of open pros if you want something really nice and sturdy Fork = 1" Threaded Spicer Crowned - why not a tange fork they are nicer and chrome I have thought about getting the Nitto Jaguar seatpost as well, but since it would be the purely asthetic purchase (I'm not nearly enough rider to need or notice that) I think I'm going to pass. So, save for the frame and the stock seatpost, I'm upgrading everything. I'm going to have a bad ass pista. there I fixed it made it more suitable for daily riding however the bars mm maybe b-125s since I am assuming this bike will never see a track hell it will probably end up locked up outside of a starbucks or hip bar trolling for chicks |

don't you have blue deep Vs? and if hes running a 48 front and a 17 rear cog I thought that was more skid patches than if you ran 47 /17 he is a skinny ***** but I have to agree that 38cm would be a better fit and still look KOOL. and a sram doesn't come in gold and black. |
nope blue weinmann dp 18 they were a hundred bucks for the wheelset and I beat the hell out of em my other bikes sport mavics
the weinmanns are heavier than the velocities and the sidewall is thicker so the sidewall doesn't dent as easily but for the money go open pro if you wan to spend it on wheels |

go with the polished phil cog...most ballinest cog there is...and go 52 or 53 tooth up front, so you can get a bigger cog in the back and shine more
|
Yes-- a Pista appreciation thread. Whoot. I really like my 2007. I've been considering new cranks and a wheelset myself. Living in Portland, there are too many Pistas on the street so it's fun to personalize to my needs and preferences.

flix. we need flix.

This thread is ridiculous.
Slap together a dependable bike that fits well and spend the remainder on gear you'll need should you decide to, you know, ride it... regularly... over distances... I know I'm supposed to be stoked about folks building track bikes without the slightest idea of what a track bike is designed for, "because it's one more person on a bike," but cycling as a fashion statement is still painful to witness. Sure, it's not much different than guys who bling out their sports cars, but that's exactly what bugs-- there's a real sport underneath all the sexy chrome parts, and it mostly involves making improvements to your body instead of your bike. |

That will be a HEAVY pair of wheels.
You're about to throw down nearly a grand to set this thing up. Now... I don't know. Given a grand, I'd probably start from scratch with a nice old track frame (Saw an 80's Raleigh frame go for 200... I could probably snag something awesome at T-Town next weekend) perhaps a Miche drivetrain... used Campy/Cinelli seatpost/stem/bars... Mavic rims... a Rolls or Turbo to sit on. That would be classy. |
Reading through this it reminds me of the guy who takes a 92' Honda Civic DX and spends 20k in getting all "fast and furious" with it. Or the old business men at my work who drop 4k on a set of golf clubs because they played with the guys ONCE. Again, this is my opinion, but DAMN SON, can't you spend half that and build a bike that is just as fast, just as light, just as dependable? Sounds like you got the ego and E-Penis in mind more than the bike. However, I don't know you. If you can truly use all these awesome parts and get them maybe cheaper than the average bear, good for you.
Lock this baby up to your fridge at night, never leave it out doors. |
