I have a Trek conversion to a fixed gear and now I want colored rims to match my bike. Do i have to unlace my wheelset to get rims on? I don't know if i want to go through all that trouble. How do I get the colored rims on and if I had a shop do it for me how much do you think it would cost?

How else would you get a rim on? Basically, you would have to pay for the rims, very likely new spokes and labor. When you add it all up, it may be better just to look for a new wheelset and sell your current set to defray the costs (unless your hubs are something special worth rebuilding).

yeah, but think about it, that's all I'm sayin. Spend 5 minutes, look at your bike and think about it. I'm pretty sure you could answer that one on your own.

if you wanted to change out your rims, you'll probably want to change out your spokes and nipples too. in fact, you'll probably have to unless the new rims are built the same as your old rims.

if you're going to rebuild your wheels yourself, you should probably take your hubs and your rims (or at least model names and number) to your LBS so they can order the correct length spokes for you.

it's a good tutorial on how to wheel-build. it's a very rewarding process when you're through, but it can also be very frustrating while you're doing it. a friend of mine told me "grab a 6-pack and plan on drinking about one an hour until they're all gone."

if you wanted the shop to lace your new rims for you, it will probably cost you a good bit on labor, and it may take some time (maybe a week or two) for them to get to your build.

or, you could just buy a new wheelset, prebuilt.

or, you could always go the spraypaint route, like they said. remove your tires, tape off the spokes and go to town.

I'm pretty sure I saw something regarding a slip-on cover @ Interbike. Slide over you existing rim, had precut holes for the spokes. Neat thing about it was you could "convert" you machined rims to look like unmachined ones when you went brakeless.

There are stickers for deep-V's that look pretty dope... Might be worth checking out.
