Complete Fixed Gears- Small Frame Ideas?
hey y'all,
So I'm looking at buying a completed fixed gear- but need a small size- no bigger than a 50cm. I have a single speeded cannondale which I prefer to a track bike, so I'm not looking for something really expensive, I know steamrollers come in my size, but it seems like a lot to pay since I won't be riding it everyday. That said, I'm thinking of getting a mercier kilo TT - I don't wanna waste my money on an alpha mercury, don't like windsors.. So what else could I get? Like I said I'd like a completed bike, I really don't have time to invest on building a bike at this point. Any ideas?
Thanks.

https://www.growthenhancer.com and how about a testimonial!

the mercier 50cm is actually quite big. the TT is 53.5cm
other choices would be a fuji track 49cm or SE or one of those mini-IRO Mark Vs

Yep, I would just get the 50cm Kilo TT, it's a great bike for the price. Or, the 49cm Windsor (same thing as Fuji Track but cheaper, components/frame are the same). Both from bikesdirect.com. Lots of people on this forum have those bikes and love it. You can upgrade the parts later (when/if you break them) or if you start getting picky.
Btw, how tall are you? That can help too.

I think that bikesdirect.com is about to introduce a 650c Windor Hour, built on the same frame as the Fuji Track SE. Should be pretty cheap, and I recall them saying it's be available before Christmas.

Oh, looks like it's a 650c Messenger, not the Hour:

The IRO Mark V HD perhaps?

I don't see it avaliable for ordering right now, but you might want to call or e-mail them to ask if they can get you one.

look up ebay item #130158560576 Fixie convertable Torelli 49cm frame (no fork)
and ebay#150166515712 Pake fixie frame 49cm (no fork)
Just build one up. You'll appreciate the bike even more, and also have a better idea
about repairs when the time comes.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm still going to go for the mercier- though I'm going to have to wait a month for the black to be available. I'm definitely going to switch out the parts, slowly, as time and money come along.
I'm about 5'1, 5'2 at most. We'll see how it works.

I think you're really going to be pushing it at 5'1" with a 50cm frame. Like a zero-seatpost showing kind of thing.
You're going to have to go smaller, unless you're all-legs.

So after too much time consuming research I'm just gonna break the bank and splurge on a steamroller. Buying something online when I'm not sure of the sizing isn't something I wanna get into. I figure a steamroller is a better investment in the long run, they come in smaller sizes, I'm a complete sucker for lighweight bikes-- aaaand with a courier discount the complete bike will be less than $600.
Thanks again for all the input!
