Bikes: 1985 Pinarello Catena Lusso / 1983 Pinarello Montello / Raleigh Marathon / Camel Cigarettes conversion / 1957 Worksman cruiser / Puch 140 / Raleigh Grand Prix

Does anyone know if Jovontae Turner and/or John Igei have full parts in the video? If so, I wouldn't mind checking the video out. Always had the best styles on a board, wouldn't surprise me if they were exciting to watch riding a bike.

You're pulling that out of your ass aren't you? If anything the markup on DVD players is small. The reason movies are cheap (compared to the MASH DVD) is that movie ticket sales make up a huge part of that business. By the time the DVD comes out, the movie has already made most of it's money.

Bikes: iro mark v for street, sh itamori peloton for track

i spend too much time not giving a **** about marketing to give a **** about marketing.

i know enough to feel satisfied with my purchasing discretion.

but i do plan on owning a fully purchased copy of mash, which will sit next to my copy of pedal. when guests come over, the conversations will be something like this:

"hey, do you wanna watch a movie? i have ichi the killer and MASH. you pick one and i'll start making some burritos."

"well, i wanna watch mash, but its in SF, and i'm just gonna think about how sub par your burritos are compared to SF burritos."

"come on. i don't have anything else to make, and otherwise we're gonna watch ichi. you're not gonna wanna eat anything with sour cream once you get five minutes into the movie."

"well, i mean i'm just not gonna eat any burritos then. do you want to just order something?"

yeah. so, i guess i'm worried that if i buy MASH, people are gonna give me **** about my burritos. i'm gonna have to stock up on really good beer to compensate.

Actually, I'm not. I work at an independent record store so i've heard a lot about the ways in which bigger business can afford to sell things for less. The reality though is that i only used dvd players as an example due to its relation to the argument. It is true though that larger companies often sell smaller products for cost or near cost and in turn write it off as an advertising expense. It works, apparently very well.

This is a popular misconception, and it's not really so. Two companies, Best Buy and Wal-Mart, sell the bulk of the DVDs sold at retail stores in America, and so they're able to negotiate ridiculously low prices. As Kemmer pointed out, most of the money has been made back by the time it comes to DVD, so the primary expenses are in promotion (since production of a DVD costs a fraction of a cent). Studios will make this back quickly, so they can afford to sell their movie for less.

Due to economies of scale, independent producers of movies typically incur larger debts during production, manufacturing and promotion that major studios, relative to their respective financial means. Since they rarely if ever see ANY revenue from ticket sales, they have to earn back their expenses through DVD sales, which is why independently produced and distributed movies of all stripes regularly cost $20 or more, and include lower-cost incentives to drive early sales, and potentially build buzz.

That is true, but I seriously doubt that DVDs are used this way. Typically, the really inexpensive versions of stuff they want to make money on are used as loss leaders. For example, best buy will advertise a digital camera for $40 (at or near cost) but it's a janky piece of crap. When you get to the store they try and sell you a $80 one on the basis that the $40 sucks and you'd be much better off spending a little more on a decent camera.

dope style is something that i really hope comes around.

there's nothing that looks more stupid then some kid in tight jeans and a cut-off black shirt riding out a one-handed wheelie on a pink and purple bike . . . all the while looking like s/he had a bad mission burrito and warm hamm's for dinner.

That is not nice at all.

I bought the movie, I will be back in Toronto on Dec 13th. Organize a screening there, and I can bring it. But make sure there is a can of 99cent Arizona Ice tea for me.

MASH fu(king owns. Downloading that ***** off the web is beyond punk. Buy one non-nJs part for your "street bike" and that will more than cover the cost.

I got the email yesterday. I just checked my card and they haven't charged it yet. So I'm not getting my hopes up that it shipped early.
