I have been on the lookout for a green chain for quite awhile now too. I think it is kind of silly that none of the major companies are making them. In the end it really isn't worth the efforts to paint it or buy that overpriced izumi chain. I agree with igneous faction that the gold chain with some green accents throughout your bike would be a nice combo.

frankly, i think black and green would look much better. there is something abut those colored chains that just comes off as gaudy. ive rarely seen them look nice.

Hey man, I still think you're cool. You just asked a dumb question. Lord knows I've done the same. Hell, a lot of people have done dumber stuff than that without asking for advice first. I'd say you're a step ahead of the game already.

The painting a chain part didn't sound nearly as silly to me as the taking an entire chain apart and trying to put it back together again part.

In my defense this: https://sheldonbrown.com/chainclean.html made chain assembly and disassembly look quite trivial.

That Sheldon page is BICYCLE HUMOR.

You haven't been around bikes for too long now, have you?! It's okay -- everybody's gotta start somewhere. ;-)

Just rock a black white or silver chain. It's not worth the effort, and that Izumi chain might be worth it if you don't run crazy chain tension like I do.

i would like to see you try this...but i predict that when you finally put the chain back together the rivets would be so ****ed that the chain would basically become a fancy metal rod without much flexibility. when you finally got it on your bike the paint would wear off pretty quickly, and then it would break.

While I would never pay for such a chain ($$!!), I guess I can understand why someone might want that, not my thing, but whatever, people buy stupid stuff for their cars and trucks and drop 100's and 1000's of dollars for a non functioning piece of equipment all the time. Whats $60 for making his bike look the way he wants?

That said, just spend the $60 for the chain, the paint won't last even if you do a really good job with it. I'm all for saving money, but man, painting a chain like that is even below me.

Don't get on his bad side. He once berated me until I agreed to eat half a jumbo pizza...as I cried.

look all you need is a jar and a can of spray paint

take spray paint

point into jar

push button until jar is full of paint

put chain in jar

leave over night

remove chain

wrap around neck

jump off bridge

I'm supposed to believe that the OP--simultaneously--seriously considered taking a chain apart to paint it, and understood the humor in that Sheldon Brown page. I don't believe it.

The whole It-was-a-joke-all-along defense doesn't fly.
