Post your paint job Ideas!!
Hey guys, sorry if this has been done before but I thought it would be cool if everyone could post ideas theyve had for paint jobs on their bikes.
Mine is a real simple one, I just want to paint it a flat primer black and get some black wheels, black chain, black grips etc (everything black!) with some white walled tires, I really like the way old hot rods and choppers look, thought maybe it could work on my bike, how about you guys?

I received a great paint job idea from dzinehaus about a "The Spectre" paint job. The Spectre if you didn't know was a comic book character.

go to my blog to see some pics of the entire painting process: https://neilmonday.blogspot.com/2007/...g-my-bike.html . It might take a while for me to update the pictures.

Wow, that glow in the dark paint looks awesome!
How does it look when you ride at night? Or does it have to be perfectly pitch black to show up?
Nice job!

If you "charge" it up before you ride then you can see it glow even with city lights around. Also, bringing my bike inside after a ride in the bright daylight makes it glow like crazy. If you want it to really pop you need to charge it with a flood light or something and you get a few minutes of glow at night in the city then it slowly fades. I still love it tho.

I like this thread. I've been thinking about alternative "paint" jobs lately. Things like electrical tape, stickers, that chalkboard spray paint, elmers glue and glitter, twine, or something else weird. Does anyone else have any alternative ideas or pics to post?

That would actually probally be pretty cool to wrap random twine over the bike then paint it and remove it so the color underneath shows up. you could always paint it then get a brush dipped in another color and fling it at the bike, make it look like an old GT Vertigo or something lol.

I want to paint an entire frame with reflective paint.

Don't be afraid of colors!
Here's my idea of fun:
Primary Colors: Teal (sort of) and Canary Yellow
Secondary Colors: Black and White

Maybe he is talking about chrome, but there is also a different kind of reflective paint (https://www.hardwareworld.com/10oz-Re...t-p7OAJ3Z.aspx) that is similar to the stuff on street signs and reflective strips etc.

Ah, I see. I talked about that with somebody, and you can't paint that. It's a layered material that is manufactured. You can, however, buy rolls of reflective tape of that sort, and though wicked expensive (but probably less expensive than a professional paintjob) you could cover your frame in it.
That would be awesome, I endorse this idea.

I used some Scotchlite tape on this bike and it shows up pretty well. As Aeroplane points out, it's not cheap. But then again, it's probably cheaper and easier than a full paint job.

A few friends of mine came up with the idea of throwing glitter on your paint while it's still wet and then clearcoating over it. In the end it looks pretty good, but be warned it's difficult to evenly distribute the glitter and is easiest to do with 2 people - one spraying and one applying glitter. I haven't tried it myself but have seen the end result, and it was pretty cool.
Also, if you have a lugged frame there are all sorts of cool color combo possibilities if you feel like taking the time to mask off the lugs and do different sections different colors.

I found that stuff at Home Despot at $6/can, but haven't used it yet. Just rattlecanned a beater bike. Boring Black (tm). Found the reflective stuff only after I painted the bike. Might have to do it again. Thinking that I would strip it down to bare frame and then hit it with the reflective paint.
NeilMonday, where'd you find the glow in the dark stuff?

That's apparently what they did here.
EDIT: Found a reflective paint thread here. Haven't read it all yet, but looks useful.

carleton has a great idea. i've been thinking of doing my next bike like the repsol hondas. i'm no honda fan boy, but the respol livery is one of the best out on the track today.
