PBNation is the epitome of "good forums gone bad". Back in 01/02 it was one of the best, if not THE best forum for technical articles, how-to's, etc for paintball strategy, equipment, tournament listings/coverage, etc.

6 years later, it's filled with 13 year old kids asking what color they should annodize their markers and flaming is out of control.

Pretty soon, your join date on BFSSFG will seemingly also determine your experience with Fixed Gears as it is on PBN (I kid you not)...And peeps will have "Not a 2k7'er" in their sigs.

Impossible, I am too busy cutting the heads off of parking meters...plus I'm all about the love, just search my posts, you'll see

I mostly come on here when I need a confidence booster about the forums I administrate. When I think the bull**** outweighs the good posts, I come here, and feel better.

The signal/noise ratio is so poor that I find my blood boiling every time I look at BFSSFG, and I can't stand to read one more immature post.

I have used a lot of forums and bulletin boards over the last 15 years, and I have to say that this one of the worst. I'll stick around to respond to this thread if anyone wants to say something constructive, but I'm sure it'll be more banter if anything.

The mods need to get more fascist up on this b*tch. Seriously, sticky-ing the jackass thread sets the tone for the entire forum.

There's a lot of noise here, but I can't say any of it "grinds me down". That's what jobs are for and I just quit mine!

Sorry, but I enjoy the chance to express my immature side from time to time. That is what the internet is for.

I frequent a few forums and no matter how civil they start out, they always seem to degrade over time. I guess it is just the nature of the internet and how those who were once young are now older and don't always mesh with the next generation. I have seen this happen, to some extent, on NSXPrime.com, M5board.com, MY.IS, and more.

I enjoy maybe 2% of the posts on this forum, and try to contribute when I can. The filter ratio on this board is high, and when I view I only click on a few posts each visit. It is a pain to wade through some of the muck, but I have found that there are not that many places to talk about FG/SS but here.

I have used other forums of various kinds as well. One thing I've noticed is that they are much more useful when you are new to the topic. After you kind of learn what there is to be easily learned, then you notice the "bad" posts, you didn't pay attention to before. I think the solution is just to check in a bit less often, don't let the fluff deter you from asking or answering serious questions. If you're not doing so, check the other forums on here, not just the fixed gear one.

JohnnyDoyle 10-12-07 05:15 PM

Yeah, but it's the same in most forums about most subjects. I'm sure we're all guilty of it at one time or another--I know I have been. People can say stupid/mean/inflammatory things without any face-to-face consequences. You just can't let it get to you.

sry, it was too easy...

Suttree 10-12-07 05:46 PM

there is a lot of attitude in bfssfg, and a dash of ******baggery as well--
I'm sure I'm guilty of some of it--but bikes remain there to be ridden so
the world seems in order as far as I'm concerned.

Ken Cox 10-12-07 05:53 PM

When I first joined this forum it quickly became my favorite forum because of the quality of writing here.

However, something happened along the way and a lot of people disappeared.

I don't mind the repititious newbie questions.

If I don't want to revisit a subject and talk about it, I ignore it.

I don't like admonitions to use the search function: it comes across as an arrogant put down.

When I started riding fixed gear bikes, I didn't know about messengers and fads.

Fixed gear just made sense to me, and it still does.

I hope the fad quickly passes so people won't mistake me for a wannabe messenger, or for another old guy going through his second childhood.

Suttree 10-12-07 06:22 PM

I like this sentiment Ken--
and I did notice people were more patient
when I first asked about a conversion than
they have been as of late--I don't mind
seeing the conversion questions either. Fortunately
I thinked fixed gear is back with a vengeance and the hipster
association will rub off.

I guess I was somewhat sympathetic until I read you only like "normal" people...What the hell does that mean?
