Quality of posts in this forum

I am sure no-one cares, but I want you to know that I am disappointed. When I first started using this forum I was really excited because I was able to find some great information. After three months I've realized that the amount of good information is much smaller than the junk. The signal/noise ratio is so poor that I find my blood boiling every time I look at BFSSFG, and I can't stand to read one more immature post.

I have used a lot of forums and bulletin boards over the last 15 years, and I have to say that this one of the worst. I'll stick around to respond to this thread if anyone wants to say something constructive, but I'm sure it'll be more banter if anything.

To those people who are nice and normal; later

I agree with you in the sense that you'll get more responses to a thread about skidding than a thread asking an honest question about gear or how to fix something. I will, however, say that I have laughed very hard in this forum and learned a lot from it. It still remains the first place I come to on BF due to the fact that it's a little more casual, and I like that. I would say if the "blah blah hipster" threads and the "hi, how do I make a conversion" threads decreased I wouldn't miss them.

serious business?

dude, it's the internet.

sorry, does that count as banter and not constructive?

doofo 10-12-07 01:36 PM

dont bail

make your own nice and normal posts

or the ratio will be even worse

In comparison to most of the other forums, this forum has a much higher proportion of hipsters, drunken college kids, and the like who are here mostly to just goof off. There nothing wrong with that, but you have to put up with it if you want to post here. However, there are others here who are knowledgable and helpful. Stick around and you'll figure out who they are...the other stuff you just learn to ignore after awhile.

For mature fixed gear content I belong to the fixed gear mailing list and I sometimes visit the RBR fixed gear forum for less noise. :p :D

I honestly don't mind the hipster threads, but when someone does ask an honest question 2/3 of the responses will be intentionally inflammatory. That is precisely what I dislike about this forum.

if the search button wasnt so hidden and the FAQ posts at the top were updated more often.

UPDATE THE STICKIES
but no hey, lets instead stickie the "jackass FGG bike..." thread.

Many people riding fixed don't seem to have any inclination or interest in bicycle mechanics.

OP, don't contribute if you don't like the forum. The type of members you're complaining about with this thread will be the least affected by it.

I'm just giving this whole scene another year before it dies. I can't wait for that day.

I didn't care for quite some time, but it grinds you down.

I really doubt that the entire "scene" is going anywhere. The really "cool" kids might move on, but biking in general is going to grow (I think).

I didn't intend for this thread to change anything in BFSSFG; I just wanted to express that I was dissatisfied. So, I did.

is this a cry for help
?

riderx 10-12-07 01:59 PM

It took you 3 months to figure this out?

Personally, I would like to thank you for your own excellent contribution to the quality of threads found here

Hindenburglar 10-12-07 02:01 PM

I challenge you to spend some time on pbnation. This place is like a think tank by comparison.

toddistic 10-12-07 02:02 PM

QFTMFT

I've spent my time there, and still check in occasionally. It's a night and day difference.

*new*guy 10-12-07 02:33 PM

eh, it aint so bad. i waste much less time in here than i used to and the drama is way more fun than yet another thread about skid patches or suicide hubs.

i miss seeing posts by some of the old regulars, though. there was some excellent humor in here a few years ago.

bonechilling 10-12-07 02:35 PM

How many people here read pbnation? I'd never heard of it until just now, and I can't believe this many people here are so into paintball.
