Got my heart set on gloss black, but it would be cool to see a bike primered only or primer/clearcoated.

More progress. The stem is something I had laying around and it fit. Don't know if I'll keep it. I have the crank, chainring and chain (not installed). All I need is a seat, bars and pedals.

Looks good so far. That seat post and mtb stem are wild. How tall are you?

I just have the seat post that way for convenience before it's built. It'll come down later. I'll use the stem as is, but we'll see how it goes.

My conversion is also a gloss black rusto job. 2 coats of primer, 4 thin coats of black, 2 coats of clear-coat rusto. I've been riding it every day, and not been especially careful with it, for about 4 months--there are chips in the paint, especially in the fork from bike racks, and a few in the chainstays, but all in all it's still in pretty good shape. Still looks fine until you get up real close to it.

I thought it was mentioned in another thread that doing it this way was a bad idea, don't remember where or why though. I use the rotafix method, personally.

A little more progress. The bars will get about 3" - 4" inches chopped on each end. Just waiting on a seat and pedals.

looking good...!

bulldog adhesion promoter will change your life...google it.

montana and or belton spray paints put all others to shame as far as quality and range of colors go.

bulldog + montana + krylon triple thick clear coat > everything else

These are parts I had available = free. Their uniqueness is growing on me and it's comfortable. Kinda looks like the old track bikes (if you squint REAL hard!). They'll look better shortened. I'm undecided on grips, but I've got some super comfy gel deals laying around so they'll probably end up on there too. I would like to get some brown leather wrap instead, though.

props to you all who have the patience to sand, prime, and paint your frames. I tried to do it and after the frame sat around for half a year unfinished, I just took it to a powdercoating shop and had it professionally done.

If I may, for clearcoat I'd like to recommend Seymour brand clear lacquer in a spraycan, if you can find it. No, it's not any more durable but the finish quality is MUCH better than Rusto. I don't think you can find Seymour products at the home improvement center but at a specialty shop that caters to professionals. I don't work for them but I use their stuff all the time at work (I'm an industrial spray painter by trade).

Bike is "complete", but I'm probably not done messing with it. Excuse the crappy pics. Bar wrap didn't show up yet so I stuck the gel grips on there.

If that was my bike, I'd put on some clips and straps, or a brake.

I know it's unusual, but the setup feels pretty good. It's also easy to swap bars.
