Anybody DJ?

If you do, what do you play, and where?

I'm into electrohouse, that's mostly what I make and mostly what I play. I'm using Torq so I can integrate my own stuff more. I've played at a couple events in my school but now that I have a partner we're trying to expand where we play (house parties and galleries, possibly clubs).

btw I hate having so much equipment, because I have to drive. If I ever do a club I'm just going to take my laptop, audio interface, carts and control records in my mess bag.

I've dj'd for 5 years or so now. Haven't got a spot in Portland yet, but I'm going to be looking into that soon. I play "indie dance" music usually. for my last gigs i've just been using ableton live + laptop, but if I get a residency or something like that here in portland i'll probably move to final scratch (or seratto or whatever). having a partner is so crucial, i need to find someone here to dj with.

I used to spin progressive/deep house and breaks at The Blind Tiger Lounge in San Francisco several years ago.

No one uses vinyl anymore?

Bikes: 2003 Novara Randonnee, Miyata 512, Mercier Kilo TT

Torq LE and Garageband with my X-Session Pro. Not the most hi-tech setup, but its perfect for crazy samples and my pre-recorded tracks that i play drums live to. I play D'n'B/jungle/downtempo/dub/electronicness. I play mostly small parties and kickbacks. Nothing too crazy yet. Gear: X-sech pro, macbook pro, audio interface, acustic/electronic hybrid drumset, midi controller, amp system is usually provided, but if not I borrow a friends crate amp. It's nothing crazy, but it certainly gets the job done, oh and people dancing too =]

evertthing worth playing is still produced on vinyl...
but now you just press your own (you have to if you want to remain an active club dj with turntables)
pressing vinyl is now easy and affordable (if you are dj'ing)

2 cd mixers
2 technics tables
2 laptops
fruity 7
acid
m-audio ozonic
6 yearly overseas flights to amsterdam and then a train to berlin to pick up new tunes

wake up at 2pm, spin at 10pm till 3am, party till 7am, sleep, repeat

that's the life

since 1984...but not nearly as active as I've been.

My last full time stint was for the Import Car Show circuit...Hot Import Nights, IRev, Import Eurasia, Hot Import Daze, Import War, Import Xpression, etc, etc, etc....

It allowed me to travel the country albeit with crates and crates of records at the time since it was before Serato.

I'm on Serato now but still bring vinyl to gigs.

Yeah, and everyone there DJ's. Should I ask if any of them ride track bikes?

Maybe the reason there's so much trash in here is because there's no "hipster ******bag forums".

It's DJForums.com, no z. Unless that site was and is no longer. I've been on there since 2004, but it's pretty unhelpful and full of biggger dumbasses than anyone on BikeForums. If you wanna know I put Sanrio stickers on all my equipment, but for actual purposes (labelling switches and shortcuts).

Bike Kill looks like a ton of fun. I've never understood though, where is it held and when? Google and Wikipedia aren't helping.

Bikes: Bates (of Coburg) track bike(60s/70s?), Malvern Star Ladies coronation (1953), SuperElliots pathracer (60s?), Repco pathracer (1964), Holland Ladies (50s?), Moa (50s?), Hillman Ladies (40s?), Batavia? (40s?), Malvern Star 2 star ladies (50s?)...etc.

I've gotten back into DJing this year after a few years off. These days I play library records, psych, easy listening, soundtracks, club jazz and every now and then drop a house or similar track. Get paid off bar takings, so half the time we don't get paid - but regardless it's free drinks all night!!

And it HAS to be vinyl, so drive or cab to the gig.

Yo Blicky, bust out the mix tapes!
