Obliterated NJS stamp

Anyone know why, on the newer black Sugino 75s, the NJS stamp has been stamped blank? Don't really give a ****, but just noticed it on a set that arrived at the shop.

Are you asking why there is no stamp? I'm assuming "stamped blank" is equal to "no stamp"?

zzoundss 11-02-07 02:01 PM

Maybe the cranks you have aren't NJS. I mean, if NJS is a stamp, and it isn't stamped NJS, how is it NJS?

shants 11-02-07 02:04 PM

i don't think that black is an NJS-approved color. if the previous ones had it, i suspect that sugino caught a bit of flack. just a thought.

I think I read in an ebay auction that the black ones are not NJS because the colour is illegal. NJS only allows silver, gold and champagne.

Ya, I found it:

*Note~These cranks cannot have the NJS stamp because of the black finish. Although they are the exact same crank as the silver. Yes, NJS (Japanese Bicycle Promotional Institute) standards are color specific. Even if you took a NJS stamped crankset and colored it purple with a marker or whatever, it is no longer NJS approved and cannot be Keirin raced (stamp or no stamp). Make no mistake these are the EXACT same cranks as the silver, but because of the black finish, no stampy. FYI~only silver, gold or champagne are NJS approved colors.

That would be nice if they made non NJS Sugino 75's and were even cheaper. Are the black ones any cheaper?

I believe the opposite of cheaper is more expensive. So yes, he means no. So it's the opposite of what you said and the opposite of the first part of what he said but not the opposite of the second part.

Transfixed06 11-02-07 07:07 PM

the black ones only come in 700mm

The new black 75's are stamped. Just too much for some reason. Look at it in the light- you can barely make it out. It's like it was stamped too hard or something.

Awesome QC......

parkerlewis 11-20-07 09:24 AM

black is illegal in Keirin, must have been aftermarket anodized.....black is more expensive wholesale in Japan.
