Dude, Sam Adams doesn't have an IPA...'nuff said.

(For the record, I know they have had a seasonal IPA, but based on the hops they use in their other beers, I'm sure it's not good.)

You win thus far. Stone's IPA is great too.

Currently, I'm a big fan of Elysian ESB (Seattle, WA). If I'm in a bar without microbrews, I'm usually good with a pint of Bass.

The guy who mentioned Free State gets points also. Definitely check them out if you're ever in Lawrence, KS.

Speaking of great lakes does anyone know when the christmas ale will be available in stores? I love their christmas ale. Sometimes it realy sucks living in illinois considering we can't get bells or great lakes here or new glarus for that matter

My wife runs the checkouts at the local Giant Eagle grocery store. She said the Christmas Ale is out and flying off the shelves.

Indeed. Stone's stuff is all great. Unfortunately, I am a broke college student, so I live on Natty Light. Ugh.

If it were not for micro's , doubt I 'd drink beer in the US. Maybe, Sam Adams is acceptable. I like Bells.

save_alkaline 11-05-07 09:36 AM

Stone IPA.. pretty much anything from Stone, really, but the IPA as an everyday affair.

noisebeam 11-05-07 09:46 AM

Stone IPA is my regular beer. Other Stone brew's I love are Double *******, IRS and XI is great, bought a case of it.

As to Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams, never cared for either of them much but...
SN Harvest Ale is worth seeking out (24oz bottle) as is SA Imperial Pilsner (4-pack) well worth finding and trying. Both were seasonals released a month or so ago.

Locally my favorite is Four Peak's Hopknot IPA.

yea, from one broke college kid to another. i can't tell you how many beer pong games i've played with natty. here's a little hint though, switch it up from natty lite to natty ice. i think it has a bit higher alc level, but drinks a lot smoother compared to natty lite. ewwww just the thought of those two beers can make a grown man tremble.

(2) Lagunitas IPA - hoppy and citrusy
(3) Rogue Dead Guy Ale - bittery hoppy goodness

noisebeam 11-05-07 11:19 AM

I see two recent mentions of Lagunitas. Their IPA is not my favorite, but I really like Kill Ugly Radio, a double IPA.

$4 6-pack 16oz cans of PBR. Learn it, live it, love it, because it's the best deal around.

Microbrews can sometimes figure to be just about as good of a deal as the cheap stuff when they're floating in the 6-8 percent range of alcohol by volume, vs. 4-5 for regular cheap (watery) beers. Sales at the store don't hurt either.
