When I was a little kid racing ABA (like 10 years old), I was convinced the secret to good gates was the power-wheelie, a la Gary Ellis.

He's obviously got too much torque for that bike to handle.

hater, wheelies are the ONLY way to start sprints

goldenskeletons 11-08-07 07:36 PM

working with holders is awkward, but i'm glad everybody is coming out to the Rat Pack Hustle and getting the hang of it. i prefer trackstand starts, but you don't really have much say in real track events.

every now and then i still hop my front wheel as well, and its nerve wracking because you're simultaneously using your arms for a little more leverage and potentially twisting your bars. honestly i don't have much in terms of advice for fast starts. ask alex if he makes it out on monday. He's definitely got the hang of it.

oh, and eddie; nathbdp = john. john = jackass hipster in the photo.

Damn, carl, you may be the same age as me, to bring up Gary Ellis.

are you actually claiming that he is completely unable to control his bike and he wasn't just being a jackass?

goldenskeletons 11-08-07 08:34 PM

who said anything about not being able to control his bike?

you were talking about being unable to keep your wheel on the ground. Where you implying that was what resulted in the picture posted? If that wheelie was the result of being unable to keep his wheel on the ground then he can't control his bike for ****.

goldenskeletons 11-08-07 09:00 PM

actually that's not that uncommon when you're starting a sprint from a dead start. Granted, it certainly isn't good form, but i think this thread was started as an acknowledgment of that.
