Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

From: in a field, mostly.
I remember when I bought a road bike last season. I performed horribly on it, feeling laggard and bleary all the time. Maybe it was just a subjective thing- who's really to say? Whatever it was, though, it didn't appeal to me, and subsequently I sold that bike.

Is that dressing up in running shorts & New Balance sneakers, and standing with other pose-runners in front of a Starbuck's?

People do that? I could have gone my whole life, considerably happier, not knowing that. Everyone knows you should hang out in front of Starbucks with sidis and sawed offs.
