the $27.50 project SS
I got a old trek 800 MTB and i got really good at single track with it so i ripped off the derallers and made it a SS bike. After a few times of of rideing the bike in this set up i found out i love this style rideing. and set off to finish the prject the mostly right way. Now it's done and i got pics. This is my frist try at this so dont be to hard on me. and i know its muddy

I have a Trek MTB frames (820 and 920) laying in the backyard rusting, one day I will get around to converting one of them to a SS MTB.

MAN my luck! I got ready for my ride and then i seen i have a blown rear tube. I used my spare for the front because i only had one tube. DANG IT, well off to lbs to get some tubes hopefully i can ride it today!

It holds enough tension to make it work. I actually like running biopace rings when I'm running a bigger gear, which isn't very often.

I've got a biopace on my old Schwinn Impact I'm converting to fixed for winter riding, and the tension changes just a little bit because they aren't perfectly ovalized, but sorta egg shaped.
The first time I took it off to clean I accidentally oriented it the wrong way with the cranks without realizing, I rode around thinking those things were the biggest POSs ever... now I like 'em.
And nice build, looks really fun to tear around on.

One more thing: I recall something about not all non-circular chainwheels being BioPace. Some are, and some are something different. Not circular but not Biopace, either.

I dont know much about the biopace gears other than i hate them. i Just got done with my frist ride i like it alot
My friend got his 800 (with gears) and raced me to the 7mile mark on the single track. He had no chance and that made my weekend.

Sadly most of the riding in my area would leave my twice fractured vertabre in a bit of pain if I rode too hard. Too many 3+ foot to flat jumps on downhills. There is a beautiful single track that is just asking for a rigid ride though...
*note there are tons of people who ride everything int he area on rigid 26ers and 29ers, they are just better riders than I am, I love my 120mm of travel up front and 90 in the rear

What did you do for your rear wheel setup btw? And what BCD are your cranks and what tooth count do you run, I'll dig around on some of my mtb triples and see if I can't get you something better than the biopace.

My rear wheel is what was on it with the cog spaced so its inline with the front gear.
BDC i have never heard that before.
and my tooth count is 38/18
that would rock if i had any money. being a poor student SUCKS
twice fractured vertabre

I'll check around for something the 38tooth range.
What kind of crankset do you have? It's probably going to be 109 if it's off a mountain bike or 130 if it's off a road bike, but I just want to be sure.
