Welcome to Philadelphia...

Today, all the taxis will try and kill you!

I swear, Victory Cab has it in for me, in a bad way.

time bandit 11-17-07 10:33 AM

man, sometimes it does feel like that.

mooseblend 11-17-07 10:36 AM

Don't forget how great septa busses are!

raster 11-17-07 10:37 AM

Well, at least you can grab onto a SEPTA bus.

ilikebikes 11-17-07 10:43 AM

or get smashed by one!

time bandit 11-17-07 10:44 AM

septa busses blow reds like it's their business.

time bandit 11-17-07 10:45 AM

scariest busses are those penn charter busses that go up walnut st and let all the ditzy penn girls out right into the bike lane. my screaming voice gets used a lot around there.

zzoundss 11-17-07 12:25 PM

I've already been hit by two taxi's since August. My friend Gerard rides a big ass mountain bike and has been hit a lot too. Whenever a taxi hits him, he usually takes his U lock and rides along side of it, making dents across the car.

I also heard that most of them have Michigan drivers licenses. They might have a less strict driving program there or something because any human can get one.

mooseblend 11-17-07 01:15 PM

A septa bus driver puposely opened his doors into me on 11th and south once, causing me to slam into the parked cars on my right.

time bandit 11-17-07 01:37 PM

yeah, those route 40 drivers on south st are brutal. One intentionally doored me too, although he missed, i saw his ****-eating-grin in the mirror. I rode in front of him for the rest of his route at about 6mph for about 5 blocks up around to 2nd and lombard. he was blaring on the horn the whole time. tourists on south st were cracking up.

He's lucky you didn't shoot or stab him. If someone intentionally tried to endanger my life like that, he'd be in for quite a rude awakening.

time bandit 11-17-07 03:18 PM

oh trust me. he's lucky he missed me. he got off easy.

hazylines 11-17-07 04:20 PM

Septa is a nightmare, and so is Victory cabs.. especially the van drivers. One actually got out and tried to fight a friend. Oh.. Ulocks FTW!

ilikebikes 11-17-07 04:40 PM

No, ParaTransit is the worst! A persons got to have a minimum of five moving violations to qualify for that job!

Judge_Posner 11-17-07 04:52 PM

philly cabs don't know how to use turn signals. i cant count the number of times i've been riding in the bike lane, approaching an intersection, and a cab in front of me suddenly swings a hard right so i smash into his passenger side rear bumper. i usually just ride bainbridge/lombard to avoid the whole south street mess.

time bandit 11-17-07 06:11 PM

^yeah, def no reason to ride down south st ever. bainbridge is smoother/less out of state/suburban drivers. i was just trying to get to tattoo moms. (<--hipster)

raster 11-17-07 06:12 PM

Most of the time, I find them trying to pull u-turns on broad directly into my front wheel. Fortunately, they've been unsuccessful.

time bandit 11-17-07 06:13 PM

or the new jersey drivers who pull out at night with no lights on and almost always no signal.

raster 11-17-07 06:17 PM

Or cops that try and door me.

Lenore 11-17-07 10:50 PM

nothing beats getting punched by a guy while trackstanding on walnut & 17th.

hazylines 11-18-07 01:03 AM

Jersey Contractors in Large trucks that honk and yell to get out of the ****in road, FTL.

charlesxbronson 11-18-07 01:12 AM

i once swerved to avoid a car pulling out of it's spot, and turned back into the lane, pretty far from the oncoming septa, but it slammed on it's breaks and maybe 5 people flipped me off.

septa is gay and so are it's customers

mtaras263 11-18-07 09:46 AM

wow i was born and raised in philly. i am living in new haven now, and can't wait to go back home. sounds like riding in philly is quite insane. i was home a couple weeks ago, and saw a lot of nice bikes.
