saddles
So I have this leather Persons saddle that is super comfortable but the rails have bent a little and it now squeaks like a demon too. I'm looking for an affordable saddle that is comfortable for longer rides but not some big fatty grandma beachcruiser seat or little tiny thing that barely touches my taint. I like the Five Gold saddles I've seen, but they're a bit pricy. Any suggestions?

+1 on the WTB. Fairly good quality, high comfort, and cheap. I've had one on various ss rigs over the past 2 years and its held up fine despite being left out in crappy weather and generally neglected.

Just about any $50 synthetic saddle will do you good (Selle San Marco, WTB, etc), I feel like a lot of other suggestions are only looking at aesthetics.
Look in pulloff bins for good deals.

5 Gold saddles were described to me as a hatchet blade for your ass. Unless you have tree-trunk thighs, and are only riding short distances you most likely won't enjoy it. I love my Brooks.

you can probably stop the squeaking by cutting a piece of inner tube and inserting it between the leather and the metal part of the frame... the part after the last rivet, on either side. You may have to get someone to hold the flap/side of saddle up while you do this. I haven't done it myself but I've heard it works.
