Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Out with the old...

In with the new. My old gaspipe Fuji road frame that got me started riding fixed gear has been retired. It served me well, but it was heavy, flexy and the geometry was a bit sluggish. But, I've had many fun miles on it and it generally served me well. It's now in possession of a local SSer who wants to see what this fixed gear thing is all about.

So, without further ado (sp?), the new ride:

Yep, it's the Crosscheck. The Steamroller is nice, but I like the fender and rack braze-ons and the ability to run 45c tires - got some 44c WTB Nanoraptors on the way for my off-road excursions.

Wheelbase is shorter than my old frame and it's definitely stiffer all around, especially w/ the threadless stem, my quill setup really flexed. The BB is quite a bit lower but I've leaned it over pretty far in the turns and haven't had pedal strike. Overall it feels really good and I can't wait to log some more miles on it.
