Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

troubleshooting and crank advice

hey all...thanks for taking a look

1) i bought an old dave scott centurion which i fixed...but the seatpost is frozen to the frame...had a guy at a shop look at it and he ended up denting the frame in an attempt to remove it....ive read some tricks about pouring ammonia in through the bottom bracket to break down any corrosion ...does anyone know of a sure-fire remedy to unstick it?

2) i want get a new crank as my current one is an old shimano 105. i believe its length is 170. on one occasion my pedal hit the grounding as i was cornering...i want a relatively cheap but worthy crankset. any suggestions? also...would a shorter arm length have any ramifications on my top speed, stopping, etc?

thanks again

1) www.sheldonbrown.com/stuck-seatposts.html

The final option (hacksaw blade) is sure-fire. It's also a sure-fire, time-consuming pain in the gonads, but it works.
