Beware too-cheap hosting, sometimes the excess bandwidth charges are murder.

Vanilla has been 98% great and 2% baffling on chifg.com.

Vbulletin is nicer, more you can do. php is really simple. You would be fine with either. If you want to make a badass forum though Id go with vbulletin. Really just depends on how far you wanna take it.

Why?

Is Boise an untapped market of Fixed and SingleSpeeders?

flfixed.com uses Vanilla. Seems okay, but I didn't create it. Don't know about hosting but I've heard that some cheaper hosts like godaddy.com will overload servers with too many sites.

So far I've been having good luck with asmallorange as the host to one of my websites. They have great shared plans.

As for a forum, you have a number of options. I've used punbb (minimalistic but excellent), SMF (good) and phpBB (very good). That is just a personal choice issue. You may also want to look into some of the content management systems like drupal or phpnuke.

I built sdfixed.com with Vanilla. It's idiot-proof and very, very configurable.

The default set-up is very spare, but their extensions community is robust.

It's time to move on to another forum to get help with actually configure your site. You'll get a lot more answers more quickly here:
