Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

First off, a lot of quality bike products come out of Asia - you don't hear too many people complain about the $2500 plastic Colnagos and the like. You think those are actually made in Italy?

Second, the dollar is ****. And believe me, that has a LOT to do with European parts. When I went to order my OPs at the shop I used to work at, I was told I'd be better off trying to find a shop that already had them in stock to avoid inflation (or whatever the correct economic term is).

yeah. All I was saying is that numerous people have told me the NEW OP's aren't as strong. Now I am no Sheldon Brown [rip homie] but I'd also like to see this tested...

The dollar is **** right now. Such ****.

I finished my conversion today. basically a parts bin bike with no real purpose. When I realized I could put the fork on backwards I did for a test ride but forgot to switch it back before the picture. It rode twitchy as all hell as stayer.

yeah, they are RD's with the 44t messenger chainring and a 17t 1/8" surly cog. The chainline is really nice, and way quiet.

yeah, thats the cog, what frame is it going on? I mean, if its a track frame with 120 rear spacing, and you have the matching sugino bottom bracket (103 i think) then you should be fine.

CX mode. need to add the brakes since wearing out the treads isn't ideal in snow

thanks. it'll be the do all bike

they are 700x32 Ritchey Speedmax Cross tires. I got the pair for $25 on ebay. They haver really great traction in the snow (when there is some) and the tread doesn't slow you town too much when you're on clear ground

The $2500 Colnagos don't say "Made in Italy" anywhere on them, but the $4300 (frameset) ones sure do

one year since i got my fixed gear bike together, here's a shot i just took an hour ago. new tires and super dry chain

double pinch flats from those large iron road "cover up our construction cause we aint done yet" things. meh! 6 months without a flat and WHAM i get two at the same time.
