actually I am so out of the loop - are there other brand choices or mods I may have missed on coasters?

I've had a suntour somewhere along the way (mine was ****e, but again, twas trashed, so whatever), a new departure (stiff, again trashed long long time b4 I got a hold of it, and one other brand I can't recall the name of......it was on an old english light weight roadster.

The NICEST coaster I ever had was an original red stripe bendix I migrated onto about a dozen different hack bikes. Seemed far superior in feel to the later Bendis....

I am pretty sure from the paint and tubing it was about a 85-87. A really nice frame and I got the whole shebang cheap. you could tell fixies were blowing up around 2000 or so cause I actually made quite a bit of bread selling that Bianchi. Does yours have the Ofmega Bianchi components?

pgoat: That Frejus is sweet! At 49, I don't feel the need to go too fast .... well except on some of these nice Seattle hills. 15 mph cruising is fine by me normally. I'm a big fan of older Sachs brakes from Germany and find that they have great stopping power but I still use a front brake too. As you know, coaster hubs do get really hot and there are some really long hills here. Rebuilding most hubs is quite straight forward after you do it once. I did a tutorial with lot's of pictures here. This one uses a Bendix but the guts of most cone-clutched brakes are similar enough. I'm planning to do a tutorial for roller-clutched hubs in the near future.

gh-ap: You know it takes very little prompting to get me to talk about coaster brakes. 8-)

Thanks for the compliments. The tires are vittoria rubinos, but they're red. I have a red/orange theme going on. Next is red rims/black spokes/red hubs, then a red seat/fin. The digi cam shots aren't that great, sorry about that.

It's been a long road. My first road bike, a 1984 Trek 520 (the same year I was born), converted to a fixed gear.

There's still a few changes I'll probably make. I tried to put it together as cheap as possible, but I'll probably be opting for a different read hub later on, a new stem, and a different chainring. It's 45x14 now.

Finally got pics of my fix. I bought this bike almost two years ago, and broke just about every crappy part on it along the way. I replaced the frame and fork with a Soma Rush a couple months ago because I wanted a front brake, but I just didn't like its geometry, so I went back to the old frame.

Rossin track frame and fork. Phil hubs and BB (I couldn't put the front Phil wheel on though, because the axle is smaller than 9mm and caused the tire to hit my fork crown! WTF?), Sugino 75 crank, Thompson post, Cinelli Pinocchio stem, Time pedals, Profile bars. That white blur on the top tube is a custom sticker that says "less gears - more beers."

The ROCK SHOX sticker makes it! Very cool ride.

Nice! I like the stem. Get some bar tape on there though!

Nope, loose ball. Tange Nova P3000 or maybe P8000 S. The label is kinda scuffed up and hard to read. It's actually a nice headset, for a Tange. It's been through two winters now.

Nice, real nice. What's up with the retaining ring on your BB coming out?

I know it looks kinda weird but that's as far as it goes in. I messed around with it for about a half an hour and that is as good as it gets. I've been checking it regularly since the install to see if it is loosening(damn Italian BB's) and it seems fine.

Also, don't mind the seat as it is positioned in the photo. This was taken right after I finished building and I hadn't positioned it correctly yet.

It did, but I've replaced pretty much everything but the headset and seatpost so far. Scored it last year for $400, completely stock. I don't think it had been ridden more than a few times - you can still read the Bianchi logo on the inside of the pedals...

A lockring wouldn't really make any sense on a sealed BB and since none of the Shimano BB's I've ever had came with one I'm going to say no. I'm guessing it is set up this way to accomodate a couple mm spacers on the drive side or someone went a little crazy when facing the BB shell.

Here's the latest fixie - I built it in about 45 minutes today using a bike from work they were throwing out and some 27" wheels I already had. You can't beat free.
Riding home with a bike strapped to my bag was definitely interesting - I only took side streets and fortunately cars give you a lot of leeway when they see that. I had to trackstand at a light with it on my back because if I tried to get off it was bad news.

Oh yeah and I know this bike is total crap, I just built it for fun, although maybe I'll put cruiser bars and fenders on it or something.

you are missing your lock ring for he Bb and BECAREFUL with that Benotto frame good parts to make the frame but CRAPPY craftmanship!

I'm pretty sure no lockring is needed since it is a sealed BB. See post #3132. Interesting note about the frame, though. I've never heard that before. Where did you hear this and do you know where I can find more info?
