arrospoks!
actually those are awesome bikes. |
first fixed gear and my first wheelbuild!
converted a trek 660 that i bought off craigslist. i rode it on campus all year as a geared bike but decided to try out fixed gear. rebuilt the original rear wheel with a low-flange iro flip-flop hub, which was a long but rewarding process. the chainline also worked out nicely with the middle position of the triple crank that came with the bike. 42x17 gearing, surly cog/da lockring, kmc kool chain. definitely different from what i'm used to. rode the south lake washington loop with it yesterday and i'm surprised i didn't die  http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/IMG_8778.jpg |
Nice looking bike. Are those clip fenders any good? Easy to take on/off?

Just finished. Test ride up and down the street in the dark seemed OK - I'll need to get them out on a longer ride next weekend. Might need a longer, steeper stem to push them out a bit and lift them up level with the saddle.

my before....
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC00857.jpg and after.... http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC00868.jpg i decided to put a brake on my bike, but the mounting hole on the carbon fork needs to be drilled out bigger. so until i bring it to work and do that im going to try out this set up. by the way....slopeing crown trek fork painted to match frame( threaded but long enough to use as threadless ),old 3spd bars i found on a bike in the garbage, ritchey 1" threadless stem, shimano 600 single pivot brake, and tektro lever |

I am not overly fond of cork, and absolutely despise gel tape. So it was between cloth or leather, I chose leather.

I just won't go leather. I'm not really vegan, but I avoid leather when I can. The Toshi straps were a safety issue, leather wraps are cosmetic/comfort, so I won't go that route. I've searched high and low for a vegan-friendly antique brown bar tape but I think I'm pretty much pooched. I'll have to try to replicate it using shellac and cloth or something.

If you get cloth tape, velo orange has the Tressostar cloth handlebar tape at $3.25 a roll.

Another option would be to find a fabric store, see if they have fake leather there and make your own tape.
|
Actually... oh my god that's brilliant. I love the look of the V-O stitched leather, and it should be easy to replicate with a few feet of pleather, waxed twine and some tlc... Hell yes. I'm going shopping tomorrow.
