Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

^ get a new seat and better pedals (or at least metal toe clips and cheap leather straps). Other than that pretty nice. I like the grip tape.

Wow, that think is a tank. I like it!

(But your gearing seems a bit high to me...)

Well, here is a picture of my New 29'' wheeled Gunnar Ruffian. I was going to go all out and Get an Ti IF, but decided (cheaped out) on steel.

The frame and wheels are new. All other parts were pulled of my 26'' Gunnar. The fork has the same height as the 29er fork. As long as I run discs it will work just fine. I must say, the bike does feel a lot faster than my 26'' wheeled bikes. I don't know if it is imagined or what but, after two rides on it I am digging it.

Here are the pics

Below is an updated Pic of my Surly 1x1. I have 2.7'' up front and 2.5'' in the rear. I am running it fixed for the winter and love it so. You actually strike the ground less than you would think, even going over logs and obstacles.

I am definitely not a TIG guy (for solely aesthetic reasons) but the welds on that Gunnar are gorgeous... great bike!

Nowhere near as beautiful as MOST of the bikes here...but here's my 9 dollar winter commuter, converted rather cheaply into a "singlespeed".

My ride:

Definitely not the best set up but still fun to ride. I'm just getting into riding fixed, so if there are any Bklyn people who might want to school me send me a PM. I can compensate with beer.

Yeah yeah, I know. I've been taking it real easy though, not going fast at all and not even going much farther than my surrounding blocks, which are pretty quiet and spacious. I feel like if I put a brake on it would mess me up somehow, I dunno, am I nuts or something?

shants just wants you to die, thats all. mount a brake and keep it there until you haven't used it for a month or two.
