Here's a few pics of my SS ride - well, my only ride for that matter.
CrossCheck frame • Winwood carbon fork • Salsa Cromo stem • Mustache handle bars
FSA carbon cranks • Eggbeater pedals • 42 tooth Spot Chainring w/guard
Novatec SS hub w/16 tooth sprocket • MA3 rims • 700x38 commuting tires

Started out life with a Sram 7 speed rear hub. Lost about 4 lbs by switching to the SS hub and dropping a few spokes on each wheel. Now if I can only drop 30 lbs by keeping my overweight arse in gear! The 42/16 is perfect for dashing around town and cruising the open road, but I'm still getting used to mashing it up the hills. I know running some righteous road rubber would help alot, but that's my driveway in the background of the last pic. I have about two miles of that on the way in/out. And besides, with the balloon size tires I can mindlessly run over broken pavement, frost heaves, and up to 20 lb road kills.

thanks. i stared at the photo for a while, and i think i see what you're seeing. but the photo is deceptive; with true stereo vision, you can see that the chainring is ever-so-slightly further from the plane of wheel rotation than the sprocket. i think it's okay for now, given that i plan to upgrade the drive train in the future.

yesterday evening i went blasting around the school parking lot and succeeded in dislodging the fixed bb cup, although it was nothing a little loctite couldn't fix. [sigh]gotta love those french bikes[/sigh]

The one sided fork is really interesting, kind of neat. One of the better looking folders.

it's ****ing awesome. i still need to weigh it but it is super light and rides great. obviously it fits like a glove and everyone else seems to be pretty stoked on it too. i let my friends take it around when we're hanging out and they always fall in love with it. hope that helps you out.

It strange that in all of Giant's photos I had seen they show the other side of the bike!

This is my first bike forums post. Here are some pictures of my recent SS conversion of my '89 Colin Laing custom frame. I began this conversion with the carbon fork and the threadless headset and new bars and stem, with plans to put an Ultegra tripple on this bike. Then I changed plans and put Campy Chorus on a new carbon frame with an FSA compact. So recently I decided to make the old steel custom my single. I chickened out on a fixed-gear for now. Here's my ride:

Perty. What fork did you put on it? I'm thinking about eventually getting a new one myself.

The Mtb is the latest addition. Early 90's Kona Hahannah, with a Manitou 2 fork. Since the photo was taken, I've replaced it with NOS Tange Big Fork. The 2:1 gearing has got to go though, waaay too easy.

The other is my main commuter machine, a garbage picked raleigh. Only things I really had to add were the forks, seat/post, new bars and tape. The frame is a tad on the large size for me, but it works out. Will probably convert to fixed before winter hits...

My turn -

Ishiwata gas pipe, Harris 27" wheels and 6 spd FW, running a girly 39/18 until my parts come in. Campy Veloce crank, Nashbar flipped and cut bar, 3TTT stem, Nashbar tires, $4 seat. Built entirely from on-line purchases.

Sweet, I'm doing one similar to that. How do you like the homemade bullhorns, and single brake?

Oooh, Oooh, show mine, SHOW MINE!!!

Just kidding! Anyway, here's my '88 Peugeot mtn winter fixie. 48 x 20 gear (63"). The paint is canary yellow two-component epoxy. Original rims were weathered so I painted them to match the frame along with the "Schwinn-Approved" high-flange hubs (used PPG epoxy primer as a base coat over the aluminum). Most braze-ons were ground off (they were really rusty, anyway!). Ft. tire is an IRC Mythos XC fitted with 192 self-starting screws. Fenders are homemade by me using Lexan and stainless steel hardware. I can't wait to try it out this winter! (I'll probably put chains on the rear tire).

I love the chopped horns. It's the cheapest ergonomic bar Nashbar had - a 48cm. I used it for a year stock, but it was too wide and I shelved it. Now it's found a good use on this rig.

I don't like the brake - too short and not enough leverage. I'll swap them out for real levers soon.

Thanks for the compliment - easy build to do. I commuted on it since I stripped the seat bolt on my regular bike. It was 5 minutes slower in the low gear, (7-8 miles) and I was not nearly as tired. I'll get it into a 44/17/19 and try that for a while.

well i have finally gotten round to using my friends camera and now i can post this pic of, what is at the moment, my pride and joy.
i found the frame and front wheel in a skip and as i work in central london, seeing all the couriers zipping aroung thought i should 'rescue' it and have a go at my own single speed.
lacking information and money i bought a wheel laced on a sora road hub so that i could put a single speed converter ( from 24seven cycles) on it. i now realise that it would not have cost much more for a budget fixed/ free flip-flop wheel which i want to get now anyway....
the rest is pretty budget too;

itm quill adaptor (i wanted a front loading stem for travelling purposes)
kore stem picked up very cheap
profile bars with dia-compe levers
f&r brake calipers from e-bay
no brand seat pin
brooks saddle (non leather-too expensive, but i had to have a brooks as it's my surname)
original front wheel??? not a clue who by
set up in picture as 53-16 (initially ride 39-16 but it was too spinny, 53 is too tall but i have to wait till payday to get a new chainring)

oh and this is the first bike i used clipless pedals on so it was a fun learning experience.

also cheers to those who proffered advice in some of the threads i started up

The Lexan fenders I made I did at work, some, or maybe most of it on company time (sssh...don't tell anybody... okay, I was bored!). I could never have made these at home since I used a giant shear, forming and bending machines, etc. I'm just lucky to have access to all this equipment!
