Twotone rules. Looks good on that bike. Solid conversion as well.

I'm almost convinced that fork is slightly bent.

how does one go about stripping a fork? that sounds damn-near impossible.

i'm not sure... i got the fork used and for free, the threads at the top were already worn down pretty bad, but free is free, i rode it about a month and then eventually i would hit a bump and the lock nut would pop up a thread and start rattling (along with the spacers obviously) i would hand-tighten it while i'm riding and keep going, but next bump it does the same thing. i couldn't tighten it much harder than by hand or it would pop the thread again. might not be much of a safety hazard but was annoying as hell.

I dunno, maybe! I don't think I had the only one in town. But I liked to think I had the only one in town!

youth 05-09-06 06:28 PM

so i have some sweet new pics of my bike in its current state... i just put some new cinelli white tape on there so it looks really pretty... that'll probably last two weeks. i also have a monstrously fat redline chain tensioner i got from a friend, vittoria freedom tires, and some off-brand 44t chainring. the rest of it is pretty non-descript, and for the most part, still factory parts. but this is my baby at five+ months old... i'm so happy with her <3

nah, i'm just a bit tall for a 56cm frame (6'1"). the seat is at its max height right now, and actually fits perfect, so i'm okay with it. i'll just remember to go bigger next time i'm frame shopping.

That top tube pad is both Phat and Fat. You must have like 2" padding wrapped around ;)

yeah what IS IT with those chain rings....first i only saw them on my friends bike, then i got one in red and now im seeing them more and more but only in like three colors(red, blue, and whatever you have now....pewter? alum?) and in two sizes(42 and 44). i like em but i want to grind off the extra holes, ah but i am lazy. and its cool that i have lazy mans drillium!

It wasn't the seat tube vs size of frame relation I was talking about, but your leg looks really extended in the picture of you riding.

Here's a question, while towards the bottom of your downstroke do you point your toe down and if you do, does it feel like your doing a stretch if you're keeping it level? A good seat height is where you can keep your foot parallel to the ground all the way to the bottom of the stroke. (or so I've been told)

sivat 05-09-06 08:55 PM

it looks like a rocket ring. Sheldonbrown has them in lots of sizes for pretty cheap. I have a 44 and 46 tooth.

they're rocket/generic bmx rings, and come in a lot more sizes than 42 and 44. http://www.danscomp.com has a lot of them. can't really go wrong for 10 or so dollars, especially if you're trying to figure out a gear to settle on.

although, i don't really get down on the dinner plate look of them. what's more important, function over fashion, or fashion over function?

yeah i've got it measured out that way. that picture might look like i'm pointing my toes, but you'll notice my leg is also still bent. i don't feel like i have to reach or lean to get all the way around at all. it's allll good

Thats the first thing that stood out to me in the pics too. Doesnt look like there is any way he could put his heel down on the pedal for the quick heel/hip rocking test. Certain stuff works out for people though. *shrug*
